Bought this and the LCD screen messed up in a month. There is no ingress protection anywhere and the LCD uses elastomeric connectors. Any liquid on the LCD screen will leak on the PCB and mess it up. Also the metal plate is design so if there is an liquid run off, it will fall of the metal plate and run underneath it into the plastic enclosure.

      Reviews like yours are invaluable.

Product looks great in pictures, but most people wouldn't notice the gap under the metal plates, which is pretty poor design for a kitchen product - even if you don't let liquid in, it'd collect filth like nobody's business I presume.

edit: fwiw I've got one of these, it's simple, easy to use and clean:

      • I have the bigger version of that Soehnle and agree it's great. I tried a number of different scales before I found one that I was happy with.

It looks like the one you have also has a gap that would let liquid and collect filth form the photos on myer.

tbh I've never noticed that gap!

Maybe the plastic surface's overhang is enough that nothing goes in? Not that I've noticed, anyway.

Reminder to self - check scales when get home.

Being objective here though - the kitchenaid ones will obviously let stuff into the gaps much more easily, since whatever falls off the metal plates is 'collected' on the black plastic

    • I've found these kinds of problems to be a common thread with kitchenaid. Their standmixers earned them a good name, rightfully so, but it seems every other product of theirs is poor value for money or has a significant design problem.

    • Cheers, saved me wasting my money! this review was all i needed!

I guess this is no good for a coffee scale then.

a lot of (old) amazon reviews speak of heaps of issues with the display…..was going to pick one up till i read those..

  • I too am in the market for a set of kitchen scales and was prepared to pull the trigger on this. Thank you guys for your "invaluable" contribution!

  • I picked up a flat metal one from one of those Coles special buy displays for around $10-15 dollars that only has 2 buttons and it works great. It's within +-2g of our expensive kitchen scales but has a good flat surface so I can easily fit entire bowls or plates on it.

The only reason I can think that you'd pay this much for kitchen scales is if you're going to leave it out and like the aesthetic

  • Great comments. I’ll let the wife know to just stick to using it for dry mix. I’ll use it to measure the flour for the pasta machine.

Bought mine about 2 years ago. Started playing up last week. None of the buttons work , power does but only to turn it on not off which tells me it's a logic issue.

Open the unit up, looks like a kids project with a breadboard and soldering done by their toddler sibling.

  • The future is now people! If the scale is not USB rechargeable them I don't wanna hear about it

  • Using a timemore coffee scale ..that's pretty good for liquids and has a rubber mat as well. I use it for cooking too but it tops out at 1kg. Increments are at 0.1g though
