Double Your Current VPS System for The Same Price (Promo from WHT) (USA Based)

30

Don't bash me if this should be in the forums, it seemed like a good deal.

I was looking around for a cheapo VPS when I found this deal, all you need to do is provide a recent invoice and it should be fine.

I have recieved my invoice and paid, just waiting for activation now which they state happens within 24 hours, and the payment via Paypal provides that extra security. 4GB + 160GB space for $7/m, I couldn't pass that up!

It is USA based, and would be 1gibt by the look of it, and Xen based.

The problem of posting offers from WHT is, there are literally hundreds of offers there every single day, and many of them coming from teenagers, students or serial scammers. I would not post any deal from them except some super big providers…

  • ooh Wonder if they will double a vps I've had for a few years and haven't been using. 2GB RAM on it and it is under $10/month. Has it for years, the name of the company has changed a few times (been sold a few times) but my plan is still active with them.

    • Give it a go, as far as I'm concerned the worst case scenario is for a Paypal dispute for <$10. Mine was 2GB for $7.

      • What host is that with?

Promo from http://www.up2vps.com never had any problems until I simply couldn't be bothered paying for it :D.

      • I'm going to try get them to double one of my cheap windows boxes. 2GB RAM, 65GB HDD, 2TB data for under $8/month thanks to a really old limited promo (Win Server 2008)

  • Just queried when it was going to come online and the reply (pretty fast) was:

    HI Tony,

All of our services are setup on a revolving 24 hour timetable – you should be receiving the login details later this morning (EST). Let us know if you have any questions in the meanwhile.

    Thanks,

  • still waiting on my server details…

    • Really? Try contacting them, mine has been up and running for days.

      [email protected]

      • aah right they are oversold (yes, that's what they told me)

        • Lucky thing they can't over allocate resources (Xen) :D. I will keep an eye out for you ok?

        • Just got my details 5 hours ago :D

o.o there's something really wrong with their images

          [root@localhost ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
          Mem: 3831 1178 2652 0 4 1049
          -/+ buffers/cache: 123 3707
          Swap: 6015 0 6015

This is before i've even done anything!

        • Lol, any luck rebooting? I didn't have that problem!

        • rebooted and that cleared that memory. No control panel though? I see no way of checking my usage or formatting.

        • The no control panel I noticed to, Which doesn't affect me personally too much, I installed Webmin and to reformat just send a ticket. I have Webmin with bandwidth monitoring turned on and it gives all the information I need. I will write them a mail and ask about a control panel.

        • Already wrote them a mail. I hate needing to ticket for reformats. I'll probably want to format this one monthly until I can work out exactly what to do with it.

        • Fair enough, I wrote one too, will see what they say.

I am using mine as a cloud storage (http://www.owncloud.com) with sync, and that I don't have to worry about privacy policy. Also sharing it with mum and GF, 160GB space is plenty.

        • I had something in mind, but then I realized it will probably take more effort than it's worth (requires running a windows VM inside linux)

        • Not hard to do though with virtualbox/vmware.

        • Have you tried running virtualbox/vmware under xen?

        • Never mate, you'd have to search or give it a go!

        • doesn't really work. Could use wine though but I don't like it.

        • I don't really like Wine either, but it does work well for some situations. What program are you trying to run?

        • TF2 ^_^ (client not server)

You're welcome to check all system usage on the VM directly however
reformatting and rebooting ect are all coordinated via our support team.

          Thanks,
          Ryan

        • You want a run a TF2 client from a vps? Ever tried that before? Lol

Yes we do have an control panel in the works for simple functions
however we do not have an ETA on completion. We'll certainly keep
customers updated on the status and reach out for feedback.
          Thanks,
          Ryan

        • Tried it on an old windows VPS and it worked fine. The problem is trying to run it on linux.

        • I guess Wine would be the only way to go, I know steam works with Wine, but you'd have to bite the bullet to attempt to test that out! :P
