EB Games Level V - What does it take to get there?

EB Games sent me a heads up email just then that their Race to Level V is ending in 5 weeks time.

What I've always been curious about is what level of spending/trading/carrot-crunching it takes to be one of the top 9999 carrot holders?

I'm personally at Level IV (position: mid 19000s) and I already think that's enough. I just buy a lot games during their sales but I haven't traded in anything at EB since the mid 2000s.

Out of genuine curiosity, would any current or previous Level Vs be able to elaborate on what level of spending/trading they're doing or have done in the past to hit Level V?

    Reconsider where you spend your time and money. Be my advice.

      Agreed. The only thing the 'EB Games' card system is good for, is storing your receipts virtually so when you're done playing the preowned game you bought off them, you can return it within a fortnight and swap it for another one. Then come back two weeks later and get the game back again.

      You can essentially treat EB like a rental store where you pay for nothing if you can actually be bothered.

  • To qualify for Level V, you need to be one of the top 9,999 carrot earners from 1 Sept to 31 August (2022). For this year and as of now, the 9999 is just under 5000 points.

      To qualify for Level V, you need to spend way more money at EB Games than any sensible person would, many, many times more than the total of any and all benefits it gives you.

        So LEVEL V is just a bunch of price gouging resellers and people with spending problems.

      • This is true but not as extreme as you are making it out to be.

        It is entirely possible to get to 5000 points under $2.5k spend pa but I agree, even that is a lot of money.

          You could technically only do trade in (and not spend a dime) to get 5000 points though you could be flagged as reseller.

          Also EB exclusives items come with 50 bonus points. So you could be buying $5 T-shirt and earn 55 points.

          • @tajid: Yep. There are Zings stuff as well.

            Sometimes there are double carrots event.

    I'm only level 3, but I noticed that when I traded games/items to make another store purchase, that then I got the 'carrots' plus 'bonus carrots'. I used to only think that carrots were awarded with purchases, but not so.

    As example, when I traded in my PS4 Pro for a PS5, my points allocation were as follows:

    PS5 -> 750 carrots + 20 bonus carrots
    PS4 Pro -> 298 carrots + 298 bonus carrots

    I'm not sure if the 'bonus' trade in carrots are because I'm trading to make another purchase, or just come as part of regular trade in. However, I now just take any old games in to EB Games to trade-in (and get bonus carrots on) and put towards another purchase, which I get them to price match against the store I would've bought from (eg. JB HiFi or Big W, etc).

    EB Games also suck for actually giving me the carrots - when i bought my series x I had to chase them up for the carrots, and I never got mine for my PS5.
    But also, I don't care.

      How? Never had problem with carrot 'tracking'.

      • No idea. I always order signed in to my EB World account.

        • That's very strange. Their system usually tracks that shit straight away.

            @tallkid123: Nah I've had this issue a handful of times as well, with both online orders and in-store orders (where I'm sure they included my EB World account).
            The carrots sometimes don't get added and I have to send a support email.

      Ive bought a Series x and PS5 from them (both online orders for click and collect) and it shows no carrots received since 2019.
      idc since i never buy games from them.

    • Never had problem with tracking. Always within 24-48hrs

      • that's awesome. happy for you.

  • By the way, as a PSA, there is a requirement for Carrotholders to login to Ebgames to confirm their details (ie: Choosing your preferred store, digital / physical card choice, etc) before they can participate in this year Lv5 qualification (or requalification for existing Lv5 carrotholders).

    Failing to confirm will disqualify participants.

    9997 currently has 4,779 carrots. I am currently a Level 5 member and personally I don't see any benefit. If you buy and trade games/consoles all the time you get better trade bonuses and their FB page community is great but hearing from EB Games Australia has been pretty non existent and their Level 5 email support has not been great from what I hear from other members and their posts. You get quicker service on Twitter or even FB. I think the only benefit I received was a $20 Birthday voucher. Each to their own I guess.

    • There is a Lv5 exclusive event. Last year it gave you much extra for tradeins and got a few bibs and bobs in addition to 25% general extra for trade ins.

      I agree the support is crap. The value I think is borderline worth it considering you can price match on games but just not on consoles but you also get lots of bibs and bobs
