Choosing a Laptop. Intel NUC Vs ThinkPad E15

Hey all,

I'm currently in the market for a laptop and have narrowed it down to either the intel NUC m15 or the Lenovo thinkpad e15 Gen 4.

They are pretty much the same price and within my budget being $1,000.

Spec-wise they pretty much tick all the boxes.

I will mainly be using the laptop for study and general browsing & light gaming. I may use it for work here and there so having the numpad will be useful in those instances seeing as im an accountant but it's not a crucial element. I also believe the NUC has they keypad in the form of FN. so no biggie.

Just looking for some opinions on the two.

Cheers

  • ThinkPad has 14% cash rewards.
Lenovo signup gives you 100$ as well.

    • Ahh that does sweeten the deal for the thinkpad.

If you need Thunderbolt get Intel, if you don't - get whichever you like more.

Also look out for screen on E15, it can be TN or IPS

    • Not to fussed about TB. so will most likely go with the amd. Is there a way to check the panel on the e15? will most likely go with the r7 version.

Right now you can get E15 Gen 4 with the Ryzen 7 5825u cpu and 16gb ram for $800 (using the $100 Lenovo rewards sign up and 14% Cashrewards cashback). It'd also give you $123 Lenovo rewards for future purchases. The cheapest I've ever seen NUC M15 get was $900 for the i5 version. But I don't think you can buy it at that price right now. And even if you could the E15 is a better deal in my opinion. It has better cpu, better keyboard, and the ram is upgradable. As it's been mentioned before, the only advantage of M15 is the thunderbolt and it's also a bit lighter although it's negligible in my opinion (1.65kg vs 1.78kg). I actually had ordered the M15 i5 version when it was $900 but I returned it and ordered the E15 today.

Is the sign up rewards compatible with cashrewards?

      • That's a good question. So far it has tracked (the amount is 14% of the price before the $100 Lenovo rewards deduction). The cashback status right now is pending. This is the first time I'm using Cashrewards so I'm not sure how long it'd take for the status to change.

    • Thanks for the detailed comparison. The discounts ontop of everything that you mentioned does make it seem like a no brainer now. I'll look into signing upfor cash rewards and process the purchase later in the day.

      cheers

      • No worries. Just make sure your adbolcker has been disabled on both Cashrewards and Lenovo's websites before making the purchase.
