PSA: Cryptocurrency Trading Scam Alert! Aka "Pig Killing Pan"

Hi All,

Just wanted to make everyone aware and report a crypto trading scam called "Pig Killing Pan".

In short, targets/victims can be found through all online dating platforms, social media platforms and even LinkedIn! This is a slow-burn/long-term scam to befriend you over time and subtly drop hints under the guise of hobbies that include investing/investments through seemingly harmless conversations which is the hook! DO NOT TAKE THE BAIT!

Some scam brokerages I am aware of:

  • HeHuan FX
  • OSL

If you have been scammed, do all you can to retrieve your money by:

  • report to your local police to get an event number
  • contact your respective banks and try to retrieve your money by lodging disputes and ensure to provide the police event number
  • ensure to cancel all cards related to any transactions you have made and get new cards
  • clean your phone ie: reset to factory settings
  • avoid collections company who advertises to get your money back! They are more or less doing what is suggested here and of course they will take a cut and also, potential scam!
  • do your bit to educate everyone around you and identify these scumbags!

Remember:

  • this is not your fault, these are low life criminals preying on everyone and as countries like China have become a closed market for these scumbags because it is well documented, they are targeting outside of their country.
  • what's done is done, do what you can to retrieve your money (see above)
  • never trust surprise messages from social media platforms! They are also using LinkedIn to target victims and then quickly move onto Whatsapp. Be aware!
  • it's just money (easier said than done) but it's the hard truth
  • do not be tempted by greed or shortcuts
  • if you don't know about investing/investments/financial instruments, best to stay away!

If in Australia:

  • If you haven't already, report the scam to the Australian Cyber Security Centre. This will help them keep track of any current scams. Simply type cyber.gov.au/report into your browser. Record your reference number and keep it in a safe place.

  • call ID Care: 1800 595 160 to protect your identity

Rest of the World:

  • find your local cyber security centre and report your case
  • find a similar authority to protect your ID

When it comes to online dating, here is a simple rule to avoid scams while looking for love:
-$100 total limit of in person transactions (food, drinks, hoyts vouchers etc) before someone spreads their legs

    • Redditors getting scammed, truly a shock

      • Always a sky above sky, my man…

        • I'm unsure how that applies to Reddit.

  • I get these on whatsapp all the time. They usually steal some hot girl's photo and pose as them.

They are like, "have you heard of cryptocurrency? You can make alot of money from it"

I always respond with, yes, I know, I've been in crypto since 2013.

Then I never hear from them again hahah.

  • How do I get in on it?

      Scammer spotted.

  • A quick rule is if crypto is involved and you aren't using a major and well known exchange to buy it, it's a scam.
