Stupid question - how do you tell if your computer's compatible with these?

    • +2

You need to check your motherboard compatibility

    • +2

      what motherboard do you have?

      • -7

        Lenovo 20NFCTO1WW - just a laptop

        • +14

This is a desktop CPU. You can't upgrade laptop CPUs unfortunately.

  • +2

    1-2 months for dispatch. Ooph

    • +1

Decent chance the next generation will launch before these ship, supposed to be Q3 this year.

      • +2

Depends its not always the case, it could ship sooner than later. You can always cancel the order and there should be no issues if it has not shipped yet.

    • +2

      In stock and free ship

      • +1

        Surcharge

        • On credit yea. 2%
It's also only click and collect now lol

  • can anyone suggest a motherbo less than $100 to go with this? Or if it's too low other suggestions?

    • +3

Check out Hardware Unboxed, they have pretty good mobo comparisons

  • It’s not x right

    • +1

It is the non x model but they are the same CPU you can manually OC this CPU to the same specs as the 5600x.

      • -5

well not only could you not match the performance but also why would you ever manually oc lmao

        • -1

          What are you on about?

I run my Ryzen 5 3600 @ 4.3ghz all cores, lots of people OC.

          • -6

@aussieprepper: you're comparing a zen 2 chip to zen 3? nobody should manually overclock a zen 3 chip.

            • -1

@abjsdhasehasee: According to reddit many people do OC the 5600/5600x?

If you can't OC manually just use PBO.

              • @aussieprepper: Pbo is better than 24/7 all core oc because pbo will get higher single thread speeds. For gaming anyway, but if you need all core more than single thread why get a 6 core CPU instead of 8+

              • @aussieprepper: not only will manually ocing your CPU absoloutely kill your single core performance, to even match a proper PBO oc's multicore performance you'd have to run above your FIT voltage and possibly degrade your cpu over time.

edit- also I guarantee there is not one person manually ocing at or below their fit voltage in which pbo is slower

        • Have a watch of this Hardware Unboxed comparison between the 5600 and 5700X and you'll see there's not much difference in gaming between these two parts, let alone a 5600 and a 5600X.

          • -4

@MdMa7: gaming is not a test of CPU performance.

            • +1

@abjsdhasehasee: it's a test, just not all the tests

              • -2

@Aequitas: its like comparing gpus in 1080p low csgo with a 12900k. useless.

actual cpu benchmarks is what matters. and when you consider that not only is the 5600 clock walled 200mhz lower, its also worse binned with worse fclk

        • not sure what you are on about… oc at decent levels is free performance. ever heard of the term silicon lottery?

the few reasons you should NOT oc is,
          1) you don’t know what you are doing
          2) have incapable hardware
          3) don’t care
          4) afraid of warranty

          • @kaleidoscope: https://www.aptitude-test.com/reading-comprehension.html#:~:….
Might wanna give this a try if you couldn't read that I said 'manually oc'

You oc zen 3 using pbo2, curve optimiser, adjusting power limits and setting max boost.

Not only does manually ocing zen 3 absolutely destroy your single core boost but it either matches multicore at FIT voltage or you go above FIT and start to actually damage your CPU.

Like I said above I guarantee that at or below FIT, that pbo2 oc will always be better on any zen 3 chip.

And if by the silicon lottery, you mean the one I won with my 2k fclk 5600x? Then yes

  • Nice - was $8 more this morning

  • +1

I ordered this when it was $237 on Monday (then cancelled it since Amazon didn't let me have a reimbursement of $8 and re-ordered).

I received an email this morning that they changed the delivery time to 29/07 - 1/08 so take it with a grain of salt, but it may come much sooner than the estimated 1-2 months

  • Do we see this dropping further in the near future?

    • +3

Maybe but I've seen enough! Grabbed one

  • Any good motherboard deal recommendations?

  • I have a B450 Aorus mobo with a Ryzen 2600 in it at the moment. Worth it to upgrade? Just got myself an RTX 3070 as well.

EDIT: Will the 6000 series be compatible with the B450 motherboard?

    • +1

Yea it should get you some good FPS gains depending on what resolution you play at, AM5 will not be compatible with AM4 as they are changing from a PGA (pins on CPU) to a LGA (pins on mobo). Plus AM5 will be DDR5 only i think.

    • +1

6000 will be on a new socket AM5. I'd say go for it if you're wanting to keep your current PC for a while longer, it's a decently big upgrade

    • There's a 2600 v 5600 gaming comparison video on YouTube and I'm pretty sure they use a 3070 for the GPU. Solid gains for 1080p, decent gains for 1440p.

    • +1

Cheers for the replies. Missed the Amazon deal but ordered from Centrecom. Don't mind the wait. Love how AMD use the same sockets and still get decent performance gains year on year. Really allows us to do these incremental upgrades without having to build new from scratch.

      • bpc tech available now

  • For the ITX/SFF folks out there, would go rather go with 5600 with b550i strix, or go for a 12400/12600k with a mid-tier mobo? Considering the age of AM4, the ITX motherboards are surprisingly expensive

    • Asrock b550i can be found for a reasonable price, and reviews seem decent. Sitting on MSI B450i at the moment, but pondering a switch myself.

  • Why get this over the cheaper Intel Core i5-12400F, they are about the same performance ?

    • +2

Makes sense to get this if you already have an older Ryzen cpu with a motherboard that supports an upgrade

    • +1

good b660 boards cost more than good b550 boards

  • looks like most places are offering it now.
bought one off bpc tech for the same price

  • Price back up to $237

    • Check the other sellers - Amazon AU might not be the one that gets displayed by default (it wasn't for me) - Amazon AU still has it for $229

      • $234 now, price fluctuates so much

  • ETA now 2 August!
