Get the Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z 21.5" All-in-One Desktop PC at a price not to be missed!

This model was a cancelled education order… a Unique offering that is not usually seen on the market, having an SSD AND a Sata drive.

These have been optioned out with the 80Gb SSD + AMD Graphics Card + Webcam + 3 Year Onsite Warranty, over the top of the factory model (1732A6M)

The factory model without these options seems to sell for $1600 on shopbot from Lenovo- http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=1732A6M

if you count up ALL the options on this Machine, it comes out to something ridiculous of over $1800! (but we wouldnt generally say RRP counts as a real price comparison)

21.5" HD LED Display

  • Not bad, with a 500GB for storage and 80GB SSD.

    • Really a good deal.

  • These are great when they have Windows 8 installed.

    • Not disputing it, but why do you think this?
      Sorry if I missed something.

      • Because of the touchscreen! The metro interface is really more touchscreen based.

        • Not touchscreen version

        • Bugger that it's no the touchscreen version.

        • You really want fingerprints on a screen you are looking at the whole time?

        • have you ever used a smartphone?

OP, I'm guessing if you put "80GB SSD, 8GB RAM" in the title that you will get more votes. Biggest problem with all laptop and PC deals nowadays is the absence of SSD.

    • Hi,

Thanks for the tip, I think it isnt quite as informative as it could be, i have amended.

These were specifically optioned up for an education rollout which fell through for Lenovo.. Im told that when you add up the options and etc. it comes up to some staggering amount close to $1800.

Of course no-one beleives in RRP these days :)

But still a great offering and as you said, the SSD/Sata COmbo is an interesting offering.

      • Good to know.
I sent you a message earlier. Can you comment on the eligibility for a Windows 8 upgrade? Or is that for people in the US only?

  • As this is a All-In-One unit, opening the unit will void the warranty!

    • True, but the 3 year on-site warranty would make me less hesitant to go with a unit which I would otherwise consider "difficult to service".

    • How do upgrade Ram or HDD? I dont think Lenovo has that restriction on these boxes, is it written on the warranty? Rep pls confirm?

      • 8GB ram is enough, isn't it? and you could use an external HDD if you wanted more storage space. (Short answer, don't get an all-in-one if you plan to mod it frequently.)

  • When happened when the screen died what use have you got for the pc or via versa?

Same thing that happens with a laptop.

Review (model without SSD). Price at time of review US$1,386:
    Pros
Sleek all-in-one design. Powerful quad-core processor. Wireless Internet, keyboard, and mouse. VGA input. VESA wall mount kit.

    Cons
Glossy screen reflections. No 802.11a/n 5GHz support. No HDMI input to use monitor with consoles or other PCs. No USB 3.0 or eSATA ports. Only 30 days of Norton Internet Security updates.

    Bottom Line
Lenovo's SMB-oriented ThinkCentre Edge line expands to the all-in-one desktop space with the ThinkCentre Edge 91z. It's reasonably priced, powerful, and can give the iMac a run for its place in a design studio.

30 days of Norton is long enough to suffer with such a bloated application, I think they are doing the buyer a favour

  • the i7-2600s CPU, does "s" mean anything?

In short, it's a low power, slower version of the i7-2600

What you've got to remember is these all-in-ones are basically laptop components fixed to the back of monitors.

You aren't going to get desktop specs, or expandability. But neither will they take up as much room. They're a trade off. And like all laptops, it's the graphics performance that suffers the most (compared to a desktop PC with graphics card).

If you don't need a compact, space efficient unit, buy a normal midtower PC with separate monitor.

  • How about iMac 21'? The AMD Radeon HD 6650A 1GB DDR3 on EDGE 91z seems not strong enough to play top games anyway. So if not a game lover, I guess iMac looks cooler and provides more choices, ie dual system via Bootcamp.

    • The AMD Radeon HD 6650A 1GB DDR3 on EDGE 91z seems not strong enough to play top games anyway.

It'll struggle on most new games even at mid-level graphics settings.

If you're a hard core gamer you won't be happy with any all-in-one, or any "gamer" laptop for that matter. The trade offs for portability or space always sacrifice gaming performance. You just can't miniaturise a 12" long, two slot wide gaming powerhouse graphics card into 4" square with a 2 inch fan.

I guess iMac looks cooler and provides more choices, ie dual system via Bootcamp.

Apple puts better graphics cards into their iMacs, but they are also start at $1400 and go up to +$2900. Even a $2900 27" iMac with their fastest graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB) will still be slower in hard core games than a gaming PC costing half the price.

That doesn't mean iMacs or all-in-ones are bad computers, just that they aren't designed for that market.

      Don't buy a 4x4 people-mover for a track car, don't buy a Ferrari for off-roading.

  • The 3 years onsite warrenty is very good, tempting, but i dont need a desktop…

  • A lot of people that know nothing about PCs just want it to turn on…. they dont care whats inside it.
This is a good deal for them :)

Same reason people buy consoles, keeps things simple.
