    30% off the inflated price?

    • +2

To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if prices were higher than the other outlets to pay for that extra rent on the water.

What's the price for an average ramen bowl now? $25?

  • If you want good ramen, I recommend Gumshara at Haymarket. They use authentic japanese thick broth with no MSG

    It's a hidden gem

    • Having to find your own table sucks though. Nor am I going to Gumshara when I have a show at SOH. Nor is it a hidden gem; everyone knows about Gumshara (as you can see from the queues)

      • It's hard for a reason, that's how popular they are

        • I'd rather have a waiter/ess show me to a table than stress about finding a table as a solo diner. It's why I don't eat at Ramen Zundo as much these days unless it's outside of peak hours.

@kerfuffle: I enjoy finding my own table and I hope more restaurants adapt to this concept. Pepper Lunch does it too.

There are alot of solo diners in that food court too so you won't fill left out.

            • @Homr: Yay for you.

And it's not the solo diner thing, it's that I'm pressed for time.

              • @kerfuffle: If you're so familiar with Sydney CBD especially the Haymarket area, can you please let me know your hidden gems???

I'm currently exploring for cheap eats restaurants, good bars and cocktail lounge bars.

                • +1

@Homr: If I tell you, then they won't be hidden gems.

Look at the likes of Broadsheet, Urban List, et al.

    • Gumshara is the OG. I always ask for more soup and bring water though as it's quick thick. Their ribs are also very good.

Chaco ramen's yuzu scallop is also good if you're in that area.

      • You can ask them to thin the soup out if it's too thick for you.

        • Ah. I'll try that next time. Due for another visit.

          • @xaykogeki: Have you been to Gogyo in Surry Hills?

I went there the other week, its good but bit pricey at $28 a bowl.

            • @Homr: Owned by the parent company behind Ippudo (fun fact of the day)

      • You don't need to ask for more soup anymore, they have spares near the counter in the hot water container which is almost unlimited refills. I always refill a 2nd one after finishing the first hahaha

Where is Chaco ramen's? Google says Darlinghurst?

Another hidden gem I found is the Sussex centre food court.

        • Also not a hidden gem. There's no more ramen in Sussex Centre Food Court since Ramen Ikkyu closed as far as I'm aware.

Are you new to Sydney or something? And yes, Chaco Ramen is in Darlinghurst, as well as Bondi Beach

        • Yeah in darlinghurst. It used to be part of a bigger restaurant called chaco bar and separated. Yuzu scallop is apparently the only thing worth ordering. Rest are standard.

          • -2

@xaykogeki: Darlinghurst is pretty far away from haymarket lol

          • @xaykogeki: Fat Soy goes well with a generous dollop of chilli oil in my opinion.

    • +3

It's like one of the most popular ramen place. Hidden Gem lol!

      • awww I only just came out of my shell exploring haymarket

Don't use the word "soft opening" if you're not offering at least 50% off. ;)

Okay, jokes aside. Ippudo is a well established chain ramen store not only in Sydney but worldwide. You don't need to "soft open" a new store if it's not "by invitation" or you're trying out new menu items. Leave this marketing buzzword to small startup businesses please.

Maybe they're short-staffed at this one.

  • how much for a bowl of Ramen. the cheapest one with pork

  • It looks like they have not update their menu.

  • The original menu when they first opened in Pitt st was the best. Miss the ribs and a few other things they did way back when…
Now, I only go when im craving pork buns.

Dumplings and Beer in Stanley St is good too though…
