perfect for the upcoming zombie apocalypse :)

    • "…The harsh landscape and vast distances of the Australian landscape make preparation for emergency situations a hard thought necessity……Preparing your family with long term Mainstay food and water supplies may be the smartest thing you ever did."

    • Upcoming? You haven't been to Redfern I gather.

A guy in the US was spotted eating another person's face recently, and continued to do so after receiving multiple gunshots before finally being taken down… now if that's not the start of the zombie apocalypse I don't know what is.

Do we still need this? We sent Bruce Willis to the asteroid already right?

I'm gonna subscribe to this thread because I don't wanna miss a thing

  • Was curious if it was like the MRE's the defense force gets. Looks like a massive block of butter, according to the video it smells like lemon, tastes like a butter shortcake with a hint of lemon.

    • lol

its not MREs which has the variety you'd expect (ie. sausage n mash etc.)

but they only have 2yrs shelf and is a general everyday meal substitute

these look like big disgusting blocks of compacted shortbread which is enough to keep you alive on Day Z

      • hiya, lemon shortbread is the feedback we have had, disgusting is not a word that has been associated with the mainstay product, if you would like to contact me via the website i would be happy to send out some free samples so that you could post a more informed opinion of the product, looking forward to hearing from you.

        Cheers

  • After the PM selling out Australian farm land to China, this might be the bargain of the century !

    • I didn't think the PM owned any farmland?

These are designed for lifeboats, where you aren't going to be moving around much - that's why they are only allocating 1200 Kcals per day, versus the 2000 Kcals your average Westerner burns a day. It's also why the Ark kits have only 750ml of water per person, per day.

Also, they're designed not to need fire or water to prepare, which is great for lifeboats, but limits the ingredients they can use which makes them kind of boring compared to normal (freeze-dried) camping food.

I'm not saying that they are bad, just that if you've got the space, you might be better off with something else.

  • Thanks for the deal. Never hurts to add to the preps.

  • "5 year shelf life…exp OCT 2016" - you mean 4.5 year shelf life! Still, an interesting concept. Don't know regular prices if it's a bargain or not.

Also in the cases, do my maths stack up that the 20 x 2,400 (48k calories) is better value than the others when they are all the same price $130 each. Ie, the others are both only 36k (10 x 3,600 or 30 x 1,200)

    • Hi, 5 years is from manufacture, by the time we buy it and ship to aus thats about 2 months off, and to get a great price we need to buy in bulk, so 6 months off the used buy date is pretty good i think

And you are right the 2400 cases are the best by calculator but the 1200 are much lighter and easier to carry and the 3600 are easier to store in bulk so there is more to take into account.

nice post though, thanks for thinking :-)
