As a summary, Samsung Australia has been fined by ACCC after they misled customers about their S7, S7 Edge, A5 (2017), A7 (2017), S8, S8 Plus and Note 8 Samsung Galaxy phones being able to submerge in pool or sea water. People who suffered phone damage after getting them wet are urged to contact Samsung Australia.
I am planning to approach Samsung Australia regarding this as I still use an S7 Edge and an S8, which was purchased prior to 2018. In the past, I have been having constant issues with the charging through the port and have mostly shifted to wireless charging. I am planning to approach Samsung Australia regarding this given that there was an actual manufacturing issue with the port.
Before doing that, I would like to ask if anyone approached Samsung Australia regarding this and what was their response or remediation?
I had a S10+ which was dropped in the bath for like 2 seconds, and water got in the camera and the network wouldn't work (everything else ok but no reception).
Went to Samsung and they said 'water resistant doesn't mean waterproof, it just means it'll get damaged but not FULLY damaged', I was like wtf. They umm and ahhed about it, then wrote the report and sent it off. I bought it in March 2019 and she said the warranty had expired a long time ago.
In the end the Head office called and said it's water damaged and it isn't covered 'but in this instance we made an exception', fixed the phone and replaced the battery for some reason so it's as good as new.
You could try your luck but your phone is older than mine so they might just say it's end of life.
