Smart Meter for Solar Inverter

Hi guys could you please help me out
I installed 13.2 kw solar system with jinko 440w panels with growatt 10kw inverter MOD 10KTL3X
It’s only showing the the total energy generated and I m not able to know about the consumption and exported to grid from solar.

Is there any recommendations for smart meter.

Thanks

No recommendations for a smart meter - would strongly recommend you touch base with your electricity retailer (AGL, Origin, Energy Australia etc) so that they can either install a smart meter, or if you already have one, reconfigure the meter to accept the solar into the grid so you can get paid (some low $) credits.

Since you have a Growatt inverter, the easiest option would be a Growatt Smart Meter.

Best approach would be to call the people who installed your solar system and ask them for a quote?

  • It's not possible to have a new solar system grid connected without the installation of a smart meter.

You can check your meter box and observe what the meter(s) in there are displaying but they may not be configured to show much or the information may be cryptic. The best solution is to find an energy retailer with a good customer web portal so you can login and see near real time your generation and consumption data.

You don't need to replace a smart meter, you might need to replace your retailer.

    • Think op is asking about the one inside the RCD box

Seems people are getting confused between a meter at the grid boundary as opposed to a smart meter internally, which is able to then self report your usage and consumption, allowing you to better analyse your usage.

A solar inverter only tells you (generally) your PV output. It doesn't know how much you self consume.

The grid smart meter (they are called smart due to them being online or mesh connected, allowing them to regularly report interval usage for billing) only knows what you export or import. It doesn't know what the solar system is producing.

Adding a solar inverter related smart meter internally allows you to see all of this information in one and observe your PV generation, self consumption, and export.

As above, the one related to your inverter brand would be the default best/easiest choice. Link it to web reporting to pvoutput and you can see your usage over time and solar performance against others in your area (helps identify potential solar PV issues earlier)

  • You should already have a smart meter that shows your consumption/export to and from the grid. Like others said you can access this through your retailer/distributor. Overlay this with the energy generation from your inverter to work out consumption. This is a bit cumbersome and not in real time.

You can get devices that connect to your smart meter and tell you how much you are drawing from the grid in real time. They don't show export however, but at least it will tell you if you're consuming more than you're generating.
