Go easy guys. Seems really naive to the forum that he used his real name (it’s an Indian name) as user name rather than Pseudo names we all used to live our secret lives..

  • I’ve been out of the loop with robot vacs since the xiaomi mi gen 1, whats the go to cheap and reliable robot vacuum these days?

    • +1

theres tonnes of new tech that not everyone wants needs, so even the newst robo vacs can vary between $300-2000 depending on what you require.

      Eg.
      - mopping. with or without agitation
      - object avoidance using cameras
      - auto empty station
      - up to 5000Pa suction
      - better software (zoning etc)

Any reviews on how it compares to popular models from roborock, viomi, ecovacs etc?

The biggest selling point here is probably the extra year warranty! My experience with the Viomi s9 was that it was awesome but died in less than 12 months.Got a refund but it makes me weary of these china brands with 1 year warranty and no proper local support.

Thinking of buying this. Can anyone recommend this new model or should i HODL out for something else? I need a good robovac at the 1k price mark for mostly timber floor and some carpet.

I have been part of their product testing group from Australia for this item and have been using it from past 3 months.

I haven’t used any other robot vaccum, so I can’t give comparison but I can share my insights.

    For the context,
We live in an apartment unit next to a busy road, have a 15 months kid, a non-shedding dog which demands to have balcony door open. Combination of this leads to lot of dust and trash in the home. Floorboards and tiles throughout the unit.

    1. It does both vaccum and Mopping. Operated using Mi Home App

    2. Offers auto empty station which lets the robot to empty the dust into dust bag in the charging station with capacity of 45 days they say.

Both the points are apparent from the product description.

    1. The suction is good. After one round of vaccum, the floor looks much cleaner and dust free. Although very rarely leaves some small pieces on the floor.

    2. Mopping allows only plain water and has options for “normal” and “deep clean”. You can choose either to only mop or to vaccum and mop at same time. The mopping is as good as it can be with plain water mopping, but it does leave excess moisture at times and that leaves bit of wheel marks.

    3. It has 10cm height clearance, so it goes under all of my furniture and it can also climb upto about 2.5cm which is almost the raise of my kitchen flooring. When it’s only vaccuming, it climbs that hurdle easily but struggles a bit when mop pad is attached.

    4. This doesn’t have 3D mapping or obstacle avoidance technology. While it can avoid furniture legs and large objects, it can’t detect small objects like shoes, slippers,
toys, cables, books etc and either slams into them or strangles with cables. So the floor needs to be clutter free for this to do a good job. Never slammed into fixed furniture and their legs.

    5. The app allows to create “No go zones” by drawing lines which works perfectly.

    6. The robot shows some smart moves to go around some random obstacles and the way it climbs up the raises (upto 2.5 cm) after few attempts.

    7. Vaccuming 40 square meter area takes about 35 mins and mopping (Deep clean option) same area takes about 1 hour.

    8. After few rounds of vaccum, noticed lot of hair (wife’s) is tangled to the brush. It didn’t stop the brush from rotating, but had to unmount brush to clean up all the hair. It was easy to remove and put back the brush in position.

This is what I remember but ask me if anyone have any specific questions.

    • Wow, thanks for sharing your experience.

    • Thanks, how often do you need to empty where it deposits the dust into? Also, how did you end up in the test group?

      • They say it lasts for 45 days on daily use but I am not sure what their metrics are like size of area vaccumed etc. I run it only 1 or 2 times a week, so haven’t had to change it yet.

Dreame had an Indeigogo launch couple of years ago for their stick vaccum I think T20 model and I was one of the early contributors for that item which I am still using, so they got me in their list and since then they send out emails to participate in their product testing every now and then but this was first time I got picked.

Would you buy it for 799 (if you didn't have one)?

      • +1

I don’t have definite answer to that. I was not planning to buy robot vaccum because we live in a 2 bd apartment and stick vaccum would do the job for me.

But if I have to buy, I would do more research and read more reviews to compare all robot vaccums under 1000$.

    • It literarly states mapping and obstacle avoidance?

      • It does obstacle avoidance for large objects and furniture. It can’t detect the small and flat objects like slippers, cables, sticks etc

    • How do I get into the product testing group?

      • +1

See my previous response 4 comments above to your question.

  • My concern would be are the dust bags disposable and how expensive are they. I learnt from my last dreame purchase, their accessories are hard to fine and or mega over priced

Dreame website has 30$ For 5 pack and ebay has Generic brands for like 10 for 25$. I think the generic brand bags should do the job and 10 pack should last for 1.5 to 2 years may be.
