Buy a iPhone 13 Pro Now or Wait for iPhone 14?

My partner and I are due for an upgrade for new phones. The ones we have are from 2018 (iPhone XS) and are starting to run a bit slow. I was thinking of getting the iPhone 13 Pro now while there are a bunch of deals. But I know that the iPhone 14 will be out soon.

A few questions:

  • Any Apple fans know if its worth paying the extra/waiting for the iPhone 14?
  • Will there be a huge difference on what the iPhone 14 will offer?
  • Should I wait till it comes out and get the iPhone 13 when it gets discounted more or just buy it now?

Seems like non-pro models will get limited upgrades from 13 to 14, but pro model will also be more expensive, possibly by a lot.

Personally, I just bought 13 for my wife a few weeks ago, when Telstra had $350-off last Telstra Day.

i would wait until the 14 comes out, and then make a decision. Until its announced, everyone is just speculating about the specs

This is a reasonable site about the rumours associated with the iPhone 14.

The difference between phones each year is miniscule these days and nothing to get excited about, yet the price always goes up. The 13 is a great phone and all you will need, but if you want to wait and pay more then do so.

    • The magic eight ball says “the future is uncertain”.

Certainly the rises due to inflation, and difficulty getting components, might mean increases in the price of the new phones. However, for the last few years, the previous level phone has been, roughly, $1,000 at some time during the year. This year, with the Telstra deal, we hit that point with the current phone.

I used to buy a new phone when they had, significant, improvements in technology. Now, when the iOS level is no longer updatable on my current phone, I usually wait for the “last” generation to get to the $1,000 price point and buy then.

However my phone is for calls, a camera, a music player, a management system for my watch and a hot spot for my iPad. I don’t need “fancy”.

  • 14 brah

  • I'd say wait because 13 Pro will be on sale anyway? Its only around 2 months away until end of Sept?

    • Yeah this is my thinking. I'm hoping the price for the 13 drops even more.

      • Once the iphone 14 pro is released, the iphone 13 pro will most likely be removed from sale. That's typically what happened in the past for the Pro models. So if you want the 13 pro after the 14 pro is released, you better be quick before the retailers pull the stock from the shelves.

  • 14 of course

I jus upgraded to 13 pro max, from the XS Max ($1849)

The camera is better and am pleased with this change, but apart from this, I can't see any improvements in the way applications operate, they don't seem to be faster, and my phone still randomly drops calls, which was the main reason to upgrade.

The battery life had degraded and this required me to start charging it by 4pm most days as well as overnight. I should have spent the money to get the battery changed and kept the old unit.

    • You could see if who you bought it off has a returns policy. Apple and Costco do.

With the dropping out it might be the network but we, also, had an issue where the way we were holding it against our cheek caused us to hang up mid call.

If the battery life seems to be degrading I would take it into an Apple Store and get it looked at, whilst still under warranty. You might have a dud one and they will swap it.

Why not just get a new battery for each phone and save a shit tonne buying new ones..

    • How does that improve speed - which is OP's complaint about their current phones?

Plenty of ways to troubleshoot like factory resetting phones, clearing out storage etc a new battery would also give it a new lease of life, just trying to provide a different solution instead of the norm..

Actually, quite a lot IF performance is being throttled because the battery health is lower than 80-85%, my iPhone 11 got throttled because of declining battery health and day to day performance went down quite a lot.

If there's no battery throttling, than none at all.

iPhone 14 is around the corner. I'd wait for the iPhone 14 to be released so that the iPhone 13 prices go down.

  • Still stick with my XS and has not really noticed that much of slow down yet but if I could afford to get a new iPhone then probably a 13 Pro Max when 14 series comes out.

    • The iPhone 14 will be the same as the iphone 13 price-wise. I am still on my iPhone XR and works great! Maybe my next phone will be the iphone se 2022!

Based on observations from previous years, does anyone know how much the price would drop (for the current model) after the new one is released?

I can get the iPhone 13 for $250 off the RRP right now, but not sure if I should hold out…What's the likelihood it'll drop even more in Sep/Oct?

    Thanks in advance!

  • i would buy 13 now since its on sale. there will be no record breaking improvements, you won't tell the difference with the new phone. i would only get the pro model if you are doing social media like crazy, but for most the 13 is more then enough.

  • Personally, i would wait for the iPhone 14 to come out! The prices will be the same as the iPhone 13 line. Best of luck!

  • Buy a phone when you need it. There’s always going to be a better one coming out in ___ months, so don’t wait for the “better” one. Buy a new phone when you need one.
