Most Flexible Airlines to Fly With

Hi everyone. I am looking at flying from Melbourne to somewhere in Europe and I am wondering which airlines have the most flexible policies without being too expensive? I know some airlines were offering easier cancellation or date changes to encourage people to travel but I am struggling to find these or a lot of them seem to not be offering them anymore.

Basically I just want flexibility to change my flight dates if needed and of course happy to pay fare difference, but don't want to be hit with hundreds of dollars of 'change fees'

This is my first post so not sure if I did everything right. Thanks in advance!

Generally, the more flexible the airfare the more expensive it will be. This is part of the trade-off for the lower fare.

    • Yeah I totally understand that!

    anyone but qantas

    • Oh no, I thought Qantas was good, whats the issue with them?

  • Consider the major airlines in countries that have not fully reopened to tourists yet - Cathay for HK, JAL or ANA for Japan. They may have more flexibility given demand is still hampered.

  • Budget airlines will have the most flexibility as in every single fare can be a flexible fare. You just pay the fare difference and change fee which are transparent. Scoot flies between Oz and Europe.

Fancy airlines tend to have lots of different fare types with lots of rules. It can be hard to work out if you are allowed changes, what the fees are, travel period restrictions, one way or return, etc.

Basically what you need is a flex fare. All major airlines offer them at a cost. Flexibility does not come for free.

    • Yeah I dont mind paying extra! I just am struggling to even find how to get these flex fares :(

  • Flexibility depends on booking fare class.

In terms of overall service, entertainment and food, I have tried EK, SQ, QR, & EY on long haul post covid, EK rules.
