Which Car Insurance Is Cheapest/Reliable (WA)

Looking to get some feedback on car insurance in WA. Currently I'm with RAC and it seems like it could be the most expensive.
Firstly, does anyone know if RAC does a price match?
Secondly is budget direct worth all the rave? Their rating on product review is terrible, not that I have ever gotten In a crash, but if I did I don't think their services would be great?

Any stories or help in purchasing a cheap and reliable company in WA would be appreciated!

  • Cheap car insurance is great so long as you never make a claim. If you do you'll be denied renewal.

    • What a stupid and ignorant comment to make

      • You've obviously not done much research. Take a look at the Whirlpool threads.

        • Read many threads.

Wife wrote off our new ish car while we were with budget direct. A brand new for old replacement was in our driveway within 8 days. No increase in premium.

I got rear ended while with CGU (and the other party was also with them). They were an absolute nightmare to deal with.

          • @oscargamer: Yeah and what about all the others who get burned by Budget Direct?

            • @Mechz: I would suggest that every insurer is doing as much as they possibly can to avoid paying out….. My experience is that a 'quality' insurer provided us with a poorer service than a 'budget' insurer.

You can do free quotes from pretty much all of the providers online. I found RAC is actually on the cheaper end for comprehensive for my car, stuck with that. RAC have been pretty good for claims so far so worth it for me.

    • Thanks for sharing! I think that's where it mostly matters, I will do some more snooping just to be sure!

    Another vote for RAC

finding the cheapest provider by recommendation is not possible for insurance as there are too many factors that go into every individuals policy.

Your best bet is to check a heap of different companies.
To save yourself some time, work out which insurance companies are in cahoots or under written by the same provider but insuring under different names.

  • It’s too hard to compare because of the number of variables between individuals.

Get your own quotes. Make sure you are aware of the conditions of the particular policy. For example, cheaper insurance may require you to list ALL household drivers on your policy and decline a claim if an unlisted household driver does have a crash. More expensive may cover any driver, with extra excess for under age etc.

  • I’ve been with Bingle for a long time (+10y).
Every year I get other quotes as a comparison and no-one else has ever come close.
I’ve also had 2 claims in that time and been happy with the outcome.

Same with me. Their $50 windsscreen insurance is a must too. Ive used it numerous times.

Insurance is not a simnple off the shelf item you can just ask around for best price. Every persons situation is unique.

You must do the hard yards, shop around for information and quotes to suit the unique and specific needs only you know.

Compare requirements, benefits and premium to each company and make your own informed decision.

Budget sites are often not…budget, and you actually have to do all this work yourself.

I've found you need to switch every year or two.
RAC usually have good online or intro pricing if your new customer, then 2nd year your premium goes up 20+% as you no longer get that intro offer applied for yr2 onwards.
I've found shopping around and switching is a must with car insurance, RAC, AAMI, Budget Direct are my main choices to switch to each year.

Funny though on other insurance like home & contents and landlord insurance, RAC tends to be quite good and I nowhere as near significant price increases in 2nd+ yrs.

    • Very good to know, just did a quote with RAC and it was 100 less than the apparent resubscribe price… Will Def be calling them!
