  • Has anyone used one with an aftermarket unit? Everything on the website seems to just mention compatibility with vehicles

    • I am using mine with an Alpine ILX-650 and have no issues so far

    • I did , return after 5 days

  • reviews seem pretty bad - I will just stick with my wired connection

Those adapter make your phone battery get hot after connect it. It damage your phone battery

I assume that would be an issue with the phone, not the adapter. Since it is not physically connected to it

Go check the views mate , I try to use 4 different iPhone to test it , all iPhones go hot when you using the phone function , such like using gps

        • I mean using gps via apple carplay

        • +3

Has nothing to do with the device though, just more stress on your battery since the phone can't switch to using the USB cable for power anymore. Using Pokemon Go my iPhone also gets hot and same with using maps for a long time on my Android phone too, GPS lock + screen on high brightness is a power draining combo that heats up the phones.

    Anything similar for Android Auto?

    • There are plenty available, but haven't seen any on a good sale

I have been doing a bit of research on this and this seems to be the best option but not cheap. They started on kickstarter and are fairly well reviewed online and connect pretty quick from what I've seen (<30 seconds).

There is also the Motorola MA1 although it seems to be impossible to get in Australia at the moment without paying an inflated price.

I recently bought an AAwireless and it's awesome.
I've had it for a couple of weeks and it's been really good. It connects to my headunit (Subaru stock unit) every time without fail, unlike the cabled connection which is occasionally hit and miss. It's pretty quick to connect, varies in connection time a little bit but not excessively, maybe between 20-40 secs in total.

I get the occasional little audio hitch / stutter from it and the even rarer bit of lag in the controls but it's not offputting enough and the positives of having full time AA outweight it.
Until now i've only been doing the daily commute of 25 minutes or so so haven't had a good opportunity to test out how much battery it chews but it's not excessive by any stretch. I'll be doing my first bigger test drive of it tomorrow and will be interested to see how much it chews over a more extended journey.

I got one a couple of months back… great unit - but wasnt compatible with my P30 Pro. It worked perfectly, but P30 Pro wouldnt use 4G data whilst connected to a wireless network, which is how it works (AAWireless creates a wifi network for Andriod Auto Wireless) - it just kept trying to use the wifi, which had no internet connectivity.

Now with a pixel 6 pro - its faultless. Bloody love it. Not so much for the daily long commute (1hr each way), but the smaller trips - i dont have to rig up the phone to a cable - it just connects from anywhere in the car.

        Worth every penny.

AAwireless all the way, great little unit! Also has many extra features if for some reason you have issues, e.g. if your car constantly provides power to the USB port you can set it to not broadcast when your home wifi network is in range so you don't stay connected to the car when inside (it's the extra features like that which shows they really tested and thought if many car models).

Only time I've had issues is sitting my phone on or right next to the dongle, it's too close for a WiFi wavelength so make sure there's a little distance and it'll be great.

I have no excessive battery draining however my commute is less than 15min.

  • I have an android headunit, can anyone confirm this works with them? Would love to finally get wireless CarPlay.

    • +2

Your headunit has to support CarPlay first, this is just an adaptor that change from stock wired CarPlay to wireless CarPlay

  • I got one of these on Prime Day, and DO NOT RECOMMEND
Yes, it works, however, gets heavy interference out of the speakers to the point where it's not even remotely usable.
    Really dissapointed.

I got this one recently from AliExpress, works flawless. It supports iOS & Android Wireless Carplay.

    • How is the lag? And did you notice a reduction in audio quality?

      • Around 10 secs you can say. No reduction in audio quality. I’m using in my Toyota Rav4 with my iOS device.

        • As in if you press a button on the phone or a phone call it has a 10 second delay?

          • @JSONBourne: Nothing to do on phone once it’s synced with Bluetooth & wifi for first time.
It’s just the short 5-10 secs delay on the wireless carplay device when you start your car, the device takes some time to turn green from red & it automatically sync with your phone provided you keep your wifi and Bluetooth on.

  • It doesn’t work for me.
