Best Current Laptop/Tablet Deals for $800

Just got a budget for my first laptop or tablet for $800.

Never bought one before so I don't know anything about them. I don't play games. It will be used for everyday and basic needs like browsing, email, YouTube, and video calls. Will appreciate advice from those knowledgeable.

Thank you.

  • iPad is the best choice for tablets. You'll pay more for less for the nearest Android equivalent. I have some Samsung S7 LEs and they cost more than iPad, have half the Geekbench score, and apps crash on a dime (they reopen fast at least).

    • Thanks. I only used Android phones. Is iPad as functional as a laptop?

I use iPad Pro with keyboard/trackpad case, and it feels just like a laptop when using it like that. The four things you mentioned should all be fine even without a keyboard/mouse. Also you can get rid of ads in YouTube by not using the YouTube app and using the safari browser for YouTube with adblocker on.

        • Thanks.

Fwiw I have iPad Pro m1 with magic keyboard and I am definitely not able to use it as a laptop replacement. Even just basic multi tasking still seems very unintuitive with the improvements from iPad os 15. That being said I’d say android would easily have the same dramas.

    • Surface Pro?

      • A great choice, but for a real surface pro it cost a lot more than $800.

      For $800? Do tell.

  • If you don't need ms office (cloud version is available but not full featured), chromebook with 8gb of ram is good. Remember that this is not a PC windows machine. I got on sale for $597 amazon lenovo duet 5 with 8gb ram (careful not the 4gb ram one).
    Presently out of stock.

I am unsure about video conferencing with this.
