Echo Dot 3rd Gen Question

I snagged two Dots for $29 in the recent Prime Day sale.
One has replaced my digital clock radio which had a crappy speaker and cut out if I was charging my mobile phone.
It's an awesome upgrade for $14.50!!
I want to give the other Dot to an elderly relative who resides in a nursing home but she doesn't have email or an Amazon Prime account.
Can I set up the other Dot up on my account with my relative's voice?
I have researched the question but the information I have found is confusing and conflicting.
I'm hoping OzBargainers who own the device can set me straight.

Haha I tried that. Alexa said "Here's something I found on lifehacker.com. Go to settings in your GOOGLE account….." 😳

I don't think you need to set up a voice - mine recognise anyone who says the A-word (including children and occasionally the TV).

    • Interesting 🤔
I had to recite some phrases when I set up the first one, so I assumed Alexa would respond only to my voice.
I live alone but I'll see if Alexa will respond to my budgie 😁

"she doesn't have email or an Amazon Prime account"

It doesn't need to be a prime account. Just make a new free account for her unless there's something in particular from prime you want her to have access to.

If you have a Gmail based email account you should be able to register an Amazon account with:

    [email protected]

and all mail will go to your:

    [email protected]

    • Thanks that's very helpful 😊

The 3rd gen was 2 for $29? Dang. I thought 2nd gen was that price. Kicking myself.

    • Yes it was one for $19 or two for $29. That's why I've got a spare 😊

      • Ah of course it was. I did see that. I have a few of them myself. For some reason when you said 3rd Gen and digital clock I thought of the orb version with the clock.
