  • can you explain rtsp for noobs? from context, it sounds like it's a way to run your own server for live viewing while away from home (correct me if im wrong). is it easy for someone to 'hack' the camera if you use this?

    • +3

You can use an RTSP stream to view the live footage from everywhere. VLC for example can open rtsp streams so you could see live playback. Out of the box however you can just use the Imou app on your phone to view the footage anywhere and it'll alert you to any motion detected.

For more advanced uses you can use the rtsp/onvif to make the cameras record to an NVR or a NAS.

      • Should warn people in your original post about one big annoyance with imou

Their PC/Windows app is crap in terms of regularly annoying you with nag screen to sign up to their cloud services..

In the imou PC windows app, after a certain amount of time
there will be a popup message about "To protect your privacy and save bandwidth, the video is paused.

If you click continue then you can view the video footage again.
and if you click "Don't show this again", you would think that it would stop showing this nag screen, but instead you actually get redirected to a page to signup to their cloud services plans"

So there is no way to permanently disable this annoying nag screen.

        • Can't say I've ever used their PC app. I just use Dahua's SmartPSS since I have the cameras going through my Dahua NVR.

          • @Clear: well it is an extreme annoyance for anyone that uses their PC app to regularly get this nag screen considering we paid good money for their product.

It is hard to consider buying more imou cameras if we keep getting nag screen to signup to their cloud services
and they will intentionally turn off the video camera footage just to keep annoying you to signup..

you can use NVR software and just use rstp stream but you can't do things like turn on spotlight or do two audio etc..
basically stuff that only the app can do.

Not sure if the Dahua NVR allows you do that stuff like in the app ie turn on spotlight or do two audio etc..
but we should not be required to buy another hardware (if they let you do it in the Dahua NVR) etc

I now realize why imou cameras are on sale or sometimes sold cheaper than some other brands..
it is cos they keep bugging you with nag screen to signup to their cloud service.

They also have zero customer service in regards to feedback to any problems, issues or feature requests.

I believe IMOU is an off-shoot of Dahua, so you can expect quite well refined firmware with good ONVIF support, certainly a lot better than your average cheap chinese crap…

    • +3

Yep Imou is intended to be the consumer range of Dahua so it works out of the box with SmartPSS and Dahua NVRs.

  • I have imous at my house and they are fine. However I don't let them have internet access and use Shinobi NVR software to monitor them. Otherwise the imou app won't work if you have blocked internet access to the cameras, even if you are looking at them locally.

    • how do you view the camera remotely with shinobi NVR or any other NVR software?

      • +1

Port forwarding or through my home assistant server.

  • So if i use a 256gb memory card and not using the cloud option. The footage will rewrite after 24 days on the memory card itself or i need to manually delete the footage on it?

  • you sure the Bullet 2C and Cue2c has two audio?
nothing is mention on the aliexpress site or even on the imou site

    https://www.imoulife.com/neu/product/detail/Bullet2C
    https://www.imoulife.com/product/detail/Cue2C

As far as I am I aware these cameras are their lower tier cameras in terms of features, ie no two audio, no onboard speaker, no night color (no spotlight etc on the 2C)
