Can someone with an engineering undergraduate degree study Master of Teaching and subsequently work as a teacher? Thank you.
Can Someone with an Engineering Undergraduate Degree Study Master of Teaching and Then Become a Teacher?
Comments
I already finished the degree with few years experience.
Yes. This is pretty much a guaranteed job.
Might want to get some English lessons first before thinking about teaching.
Is the revised writing now better?
A bit. But could still be better.
Yes. There is always room for improvement, mate!
@Offshorehub: Yes, but it depends how much.
Anyway, good luck. We need more STEM teachers.
Yes, MTeach is a 1.5 year course with research.
You will be required to complete placements etc. You should consider how you will live during this time.
You also need to see if your engineering degree is acceptable in your State as a qualification for teacher registration. Contact the Teacher Registration Board for these details.
Also, are you sure you want to teach high school? Like, is dealing with teenagers for 8 hours a day something you'd enjoy?
Have you worked or are you working as a teacher? And do you have stories to tell?
Yes, high school teacher - Humanities and English.
Always stories 🤣
There's a thread on Whirlpool if you want to pick brains
Yes this is what I’ve done :)
Masters of teaching can be done with any undergraduate degreeI was thinking of doing the same.. Honestly engineering is the worst job.
What? Engineering is great. It's (some of) the people you work with that are the worst.
45 years in various aspects of the job and still doing casual post-retirement. It's even better now I pick and choose what I want to do and when I do it.
I had a mate do an engineering master's and and after a few years did this to become a teacher. Teaching is way harder and pays way less than engineering. After a few years he is completely mentally exhausted. Choose wisely.
Oh my that sounds a bit discouraging and I do not want to be in that situation. What happened?
Teaching is a hard job. You can't go in Monday morning and work at half pace.
It might be worth looking into something like this
https://www.vic.gov.au/accelerated-learning-programIf you're in NSW, then you could do an accelerated program to get into teaching.
However, after working in schools for a while, I would strongly encourage a different career instead of teaching. Talk to current teachers and they will tell you that it's at least a 50% split between paperwork/admin and teaching. Usually it's more paperwork than teaching. The amount of work you do during and after hours and the low pay is not worth it.
It's a shame that the profession is being eroded and I don't see it getting better in the future.
you mean switch courses? or finish and then do the masters
i did my dip ed after completing my eng degree.
