Recommended Wreckers/Sites for Hyundai I30 Front Grill

Hi all, I was on the M1 yesterday, driving at 110Km/h when the car in front of me ran over some chipboard debris, that was not secured by an irresponsible tradie (or someone disposing of waste). As a result, I have a massive gash in the front grill. There was no way of avoiding it, and fortunately, it did not bounce up on to the windscreen. My Insurance Excess is I think either $1000 or $1500, and I have been looking at Ebay/Gumtree however, mine has 2 front parking sensors, which don't seem to match the ones online.

I do know a parts wrecker, who was friends with my now ex-wife, however I may need to contact him (however his hours are M-F 8 till 4). Otherwise, are there any recommended sites to see who is wrecking what car, or any other avenues?

  • You'll need to go round the houses to local and interstate wreckers to see who has the correct part you need. Very few spend the time and effort to catalogue everything with pics online so it's going to be a very tedious manual search/call job.

Might as well get dealer quote for parts so you can cross-compare prices too. No point paying same amount for used as a brand new one. It'll also give you exact part numbers to ask for too.

Most importantly triple check there's no damage to radiator or any hoses. Keep an eye on engine temps for a while too.

    • Important point, as far as damage to the hoses, radiator etc. I haven't seen any sign of leakage, coolant etc. So Far.

I'll get a quote from the dealership, as the will be no point paying over and above where possible. Unfortunately my Dashcam was not working correctly, so I don't have the footage, but the incident was unavoidable. The Hyundai badge was also damaged.

    Ask Nelly.

    • Please explain?

Grillz is a classic song by Nelly. In all seriousness, simply call one of the many wreckers tomorrow, it's an i30, not a Lamborghini Aventador. Parts will be everywhere.

        • Thank you, but I still don't know who Nelly is?

@BewareOfThe Dog: What? How old are you? I can't believe you are missing out on Nelly. Batter up, hot in here, grillz, ride wit me, ei, dilemma. All guilty pleasures.

@brendanm: I just listened on YouTube. That's 5 seconds of my life wasted.
              Thank God for heavy metal.

@BewareOfThe Dog: Those songs have some great nostalgia for me from the early 2000s, those were the days.

  • check Facebook marketplace and gumtree, they should have plenty of wreckers and usually you can just call them up if the part you're looking is not actively advertised online.

I managed to get a pair of windscreen wipers (Mazda 3) cheaply replaced ($50) off a wrecker via this site. Try your luck?

Disregarding everything except your last sentence……….

Yellow pages or Google, start with the closest Wrecking Yard, Jap Parts wholesaler and or a member of Wreckers Hotline.

    Then use your Telephone.

Pretty much the standard method to research for anything almost anyone needs anywhere or anytime, tiny effort, huge rewards.

    • YEs indeed, but work is hectic, and I have a 2nd job.

      • Then you can afford to pay someone to do the 5min research for you, or, buy a newbi from Hyundai, or Ebay, or give up the time here Ozbargaining to save time to buy the things you really want. …or not.

Try hands free phoning while you are driving in-between jobs….

        • I have a 2nd job now to pay for fuel to get to my 1st job.

Anyway, as per below, looks like all sorted and covered by Insurance.

  • My part seems to be quite hard to get, being a PD. Quoted $965 for grille. Then there is the Hyundai badge which has a parking sensor. $670! This was going over my excess, however, upon calling the Insurance company, and this is a Novated Lease, my Employer has an agreement. At this stage, No excess!
