Interesting "Engineering" Challenge - Need Help with Disassembling Xiaomi Cordless Vacuum

So I recently bought a "Xiaomi Shunzao Z11 Pro" from the Facebook marketplace. Works perfectly fine. I was given all the accessories.

While I was trying on the accessories, I found out that I'm unable to remove the cervical nozzle from the vacuum cleaner I have been trying to find this out for the last 4-5 hours, have looked at different videos, searched for the manual, but there doesnt seem to be a straight answer. I'm sure these can come off and have seen many videos where the nozzle is used directly with the vacuum head.

Here are a few references:

Video 1 showing that it is being used with the nozzle.

Another video shows that the brush head is used to clean a keyboard.

This one shows how the rod can be inserted and removed - there is a mechanism where you will be able to pull down the rod and it would detach from the main unit. The main head roller and the mite brushes have the same mechanism, but not the cervical nozzle and the brush nozzle

Attached are some photos as well.

This is the mite removal brush that has a push-down mechanism.

This shows how the brush would be attached (I have not attached it as I dont know how to remove it but most of it is explained in the photo)

This photo shows the current state of the vacuum cleaner. There is no gap for me to trigger the click lock button which is on the inside.

Most of the videos are in languages other than English - I'm just trying to break my head to find out how this opens up. If anyone have had the same experience, would love to know how I could detach this nozzle from the vacuum.

TLDR :: Cervical Nozzle is stuck, need Engineering mind to help the removal.

PS: I have asked the seller and he has never used the accessory so has no idea as to how it can be removed.

Update: I have finally managed to get the nozzle out. Thanks to @trex and all others who have given valuable inputs.

This is how I did it.

Had the vacuum on my lap and instead of pulling it with 2 hands, I tried to bend it at the place where I could see some gap … I had already tried something similar last night with a debit card but this time I used a flybuys card (was a bit thinner than the debit card). Held it as it and pressed hard at the place where the button trigger was. As soon as it went down, the nozzle came out.

I've not tried putting it back in but I guess there is no use for this nozzle and the brush nozzle - Wondering how this vacuum got a Red Dot Design Award.

  • does it spin?

    • The machine is fully functional, but I want to get back with my rod and the head roller like how I used it. That's how it was sold to me. Everything was functional and is still functioning well, just that Im not sure how I can remove the cervical nozzle.

      • haha I meant does the nozzle spin around.
FWIW in the video you posted of:

Shunzao Z11 MAX im Test - Dieser Akku-Staubsauger kann Haare zerkleinern!

Using google translate from the German, the guy says there's no button and it uses a "quick release" switch instead I think? Don't know if this PDF manual helps (page 5)?

        https://www.kpsport.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Mi-handhe…

        • Thanks for looking up, really appreciate it!

I should have put the manual here, I did find it throughout my process but couldn't get what I was after in that one. Also that's a different vaccum but seems to be similar.

I have tried to spin the nozzle around, but doesn't move a cm. Pulled it , up and down. No outcome.

I've been thinking what sort of engineering has been put into this to make it so difficult!

  • The there is no quick release and it's not screwed on you might just to pry it off. Flat blade screw driver might help

    • Tried this, no luck, don't want to break it

  • I'd guess that you just pull it off in line with the connection with a little more force than what you're using. Sort of looks like the back of those tabs are angled backward and it would make sense that if you do it with the extension tube you'd do it with other accessories too

  • I'd push it towards the device in the wrong direction and then it should pull off.

    • Already tried this, didn't work out.

      • Is it possible its missing the extending pole.. and the attachment should have been connected to the extending pole as per the user guide above?

        • I did think that, but have ruled that out. Multiple videos show they can be directly attached to the vacuum cleaner.

Moreover, even if I decide to attach it to the extending pole, I cannot take it out from the pole then (if that makes sense?)

  • The attachments looks a lot like Xiaomi Dreame. Each attachment has a clip that secures to the vacuum unit when attached. Where Dreame has a round release button on the vacuum unit to release the attachment, your model doesn’t. Just try pulling it straight out.

    • Yep, you are right. I've used two people to pull out straight away but doesn't work.

Just took a look at my Dreame. The release button for the catch is not on the vacuum unit but at each individual attachment. There must be a way to release the catch. Otherwise only way is to slip something in between the attachment and vacuum unit. It needs to be flexible but hard enough to release the catch.

        • Yep, tried a old debit card, no use. Glad that we are on the same page.

Now I guess I need to find something like what you are saying.

Above all of that, I think there might be an easier way considering many people in the videos have used it.

@ModBot: Take a look at these Dreame attachments. The release button is the round one on the attachment, in line with the catch. Pressing that would de-press the catch to release it.

The catch is at the 12 o'clock position (on top, facing you when you are using the vacuum). Try to pry the crevice tool away from the vacuum unit as much as possible. Then slip a flat head screw driver or equivalent tool in between the gap to press down onto the same area where the catch is. This should act like the release button on the Dreame. Hopefully it will depress down enough so that the catch releases.

            • @trex: Omg, this is exactly what I tried before I posted this on OzB. Unfortunately the gap isn't enough.

I've also emailed the support guys in China. Not sure if they will respond though!

But thanks! Will give this another go.

              • @ModBot: Maybe try some lubricant (eg oil or WD40) as well. There are terminals for attachments, don't get these terminals wet unless if using WD40. Good luck!

It comes with a cervical nozzle? I'll let my wife know.

  • have you tried turning it off and back on again?

    • Tried everything that was possible, but no luck

  • Interesting problem you have.

I did a bit of googling and turns out it has a 'hidden latch' built in. See the last pic here:

    https://www.ciceksepeti.com/xiaomi-shunzao-z11-max-kablosuz-…

It is also in the description, and translated to English, it says:

The Red Dot Design Award winner strives to create the concealed buckle designed for the Z11max with perfect, smooth lines and greater ergonomics.

    • Yeah, the hidden latch works well for the mite brush, the roller head and the rod. There is no hidden latch for the nozzles.

  • This is a guess so try it and see at your own risk.
Using the brush picture as a hint. With vacuum lying horizontal. Turn vacuum so that button would be pointing up. Use thin blade (like butter knife) to push down on piece of plastic that supports button. Down and too the left of where you have drawn the gap in your red circle. You may need to push the nozzle tighter into the vacuum while doing this to remove force on button.
Looks like it was designed to go together once and then never be seperated. At a certain point I would drill a small hole over where the button is and push through the hole to release button.
