$29.99 seems to be an all time low according to 3x Camels, except for a single super brief period.

Got this when it was $39.99 and have been pretty happy with it. I charge the occasional device and have also found it quite handy to put it on the desk and plug my USB powered LED lights into it. Saves you from having to bend down to a wall plug and gives added flexibility in the light's position, which could be handy for photography or in the workshop.

I recommend you only get this if you know you will use it, letting it sit unused in a drawer is not something it was designed for. It will slowly discharge on it's own needing to be charged every month or so, and I recently learned it is not good for Lithium-ion batteries to be unused and stored at 100% charge.

There is a button you can press to check it's charge level so I recommend doing so when you first open it and charge it if it's necessary before using it.

Yeah not really an issue for me I usually use the original cable that comes with a product because I know it will be suitable spec wise.

I know some people scoff at such a USB type though and prefer everything to be USB-C. But then again not all USB-C cables are made equal, in fact the variations in spec and quality are shocking so I would be inclined to use the original USB-C cable that comes with a device as well.

      • +3

Its not just that, usb c is now more common to use. Also its more convenient to carry one cable of the same type instead of two of a different type.

        • +7

Yes I know. I am not trying to "defend" micro usb. I am just saying I know there are some people who prefer USB-C and some who don't mind.

        • +1

Ask iPhone users how they manage to have too many types of proprietary cables ;)

      • +2

Any USB C cable that come with a phone is quality enough to change a powerbank.

      • +1

The point is USB Power Delivery only available through USB-C port. Let say, most popular 10000mAh power bank with USB Power Delivery can fast charge a phone at ~18W through USB-C, this one can't.

        • -2

Yes I understand, but I think Hornpub is commenting about the micro usb charging port for the powerbank, not the fact this powerbank does not have USB-C power delivery.

      • Yeah not really an issue for me I usually use the original cable that comes with a product

This comes with a USB A to Micro USB cable, but any new device that still come with a bundled charger and support fast charging has a USB C port on the charger itself, so if you want to use the bundled cable you'll have to carry another charger as well. Chargers with a just one USB A port can't deliver 30W or higher required for fast charging modern smartphones, tablets and notebooks.

But then again not all USB-C cables are made equal

Yes, but if you buy a good quality cable rated for higher wattage it'll work with ALL your devices. Only cheapo cables have issues.

I only carry my notebook's travel charger, it can charge everything : my wireless earbuds, headphones, phone, tablet, notebook, and now my power bank as well. Because I retired my previous working power bank just because it had a Micro USB charging port.

I'd rather spend another ~$20 more and get a USB C powerbank or wait for deal on one. Its a huge deal breaker for me. You'll also feel the same way after you forget/misplace the one Micro USB cable you have or forget to pack an additional charger for charging the power bank a few times.

        • +4

Maybe it's because my devices are older, but all my wall chargers are USB-A output and I only have 1 USB-C output charger that I don't even use.

I have recently been sorting USB-A to ___USB cables by quality myself, for example the USB-A to Micro USB cable that comes with the Powerbank in this deal manages 2amps so I can confidently use it for everything below that requirement and get rid of cables that are lower spec with the same connectors. I even bought a USB Power meter to confirm the spec of some cables haha.

From your comment sounds like you travel a lot more than me and all of your devices have a USB-C input, so that makes sense you value the convenience and less clutter of a single high spec USB-C cable to charge all your devices. I guess I am old or don't have enough USB-C devices to really take advantage of that, plus probably not travelling as often as you and/or with all my devices, so I don't have to carry 10 different cables in a bag.
I don't even have any devices that use USB PD "fast charge".

Anyway I get this Anker Powerbank is not for you. I am just surprised by the amount of USB-C/USB PD comments when this powerbank never claimed to have those features.
If users are happy with micro usb and USB-A output they can consider the Anker, if users need USB-C/USB PD this powerbank is not for you.

    240g … is it heavy??

    • +2

About the same as a Big Mac.

      • +1

Is that with or without the pickles? 😉

    • +23

WTF kind of question is that?

240g is 240g. You just told yourself the exact weight.

Cant you work out if 240g is heavy to you?

Sorry to be rude but I've seen some stupid questions and this one goes to the top of the list.

      • +4

        Your annoyance is completely justified

    • +3

In an attempt to answer your question.

No I don't think 240g is heavy. But around 800g-1000g (1kg) I would consider something which is meant to be portable "heavy".

      • -4

The weight doesn't apply to everyone.

For me for example having to lug 10kg in my backpack every day to and from work doesn't feel heavy.

But for say someone not as strong it may feel heavy to them.

Your answer if it feels heavy can't be applied to everyone on this forum.

        • +5

Yeah I know. It's just my personal take.

          • +1

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: All i good i understand, not having a go at you.

But im just baffled at the common sense coming from these people asking these questions.

            • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: Yeah I understand no problem.

Original commenter just needed an opinion I think, so I gave one.

To put it simply: I just consider if I put 1kg extra in my bag, I notice it so won't want to carry the Powerbank around with me. But 240g extra I would barely notice it so I will have no problem.

I understand what you are saying though, if I lugged around 10kg+ regularly in my backpack I might not notice the extra 1kg.

Think of how heavy a kilogramme of flour of sugar is. It's about 24% of that.

      • +1

Or an elephant. It's about .000001% of that.

    I just bought this one:

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234191375877

Its xiaomi latest model. Supports charging up to 22.5w and has type c. Used the ebay plus $5 coupon to have it discounted to $28.

I know its 10000mah vs 13000mah. But the convenience type c and faster charging push me towards the xiaomi.

    • +3

I’ve got Xiaomi power anks still pumping after almost 10 years. Quality.

    • I'm still more than 3x $5 vouchers behind with eBay.
Only got one in June, and that was supposedly the "May" one.
I contacted support more than 1 month ago, and they escalated it to the backend (which translates to "pushing delete on your ticket").

      • Yeah i got $5 ebay plus coupon only twice during last 6 months.

    • +1

They've increased the price. $31.99 with $5 voucher is best you can get now. Also usb-C both way is a nice feature, thanks for heads up

    • Each to their own, a bit tired of Xiaomi's aluminium case design and sharp edges.

For everyday carry, a plastic case case is a lot more rugged and practical.

  • +5

This one from Charmast is $30.39 after applying the voucher, it has USB-C but its rated capacity is lower than the Anker.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B08B4MMHKC

Size-wise, it is smaller than the Anker.

    Anker: 9.65 x 7.87 x 2.29 cm; 255.15 Grams
    Charmast: 9.05 x 6.2 x 2.22 cm; 187 Grams

    • It works really well too. I'm sure I paid less though.

      • I checked my past orders. I paid $32 for mine on a boosted cashback day. I think this is a fairly decent price. I mentioned it as a physical like-for-like to compare with the Anker.

  • this has no usb-c, that charmast is way better, i have one, works well.

  • -7

Is this stock from 2010? Micro USB input haha?

  • What's a good one to use with a 13" M1 MacBook

  • +1 for the Charmast 10400Mah Mini Power Bank
