Upright Bikes with Internal Gears, Step-through Frame and Swept Back Handlebars?

I've found a couple but are there alternatives I've missed? This one looks like it only comes in one size so maybe too small for my 178cm.

There is one Lekker that fits the brief. They say there is a men's edition but I also only see one size. They call it the Jordaan Women. Sheesh. Says Height Range
160cm-195cm. Maybe upright bike frames can fit a wide height range.

It's only for trundling about town. Not many hills. Not worried about weight or brake type.

  • Isn't a step through frame largely intended for dresses/skirts, so they don't get caught up on the top bar? Certainly why a number of my female friends have bought this style of frame and why I'd imagine it is advertised at women.

That was the original intent back in 1910 or whatever it was. Although:

The Step-Thru model was originally designed to be used for transporting goods and delivery. Delivery men do not need to cross the high frame frequently to get on and off the bike, which is very convenient for them during their repetitive work. Then, as we mentioned before, the ladies found the convenience brought to them by Step-Thru, and this model became popular among women.

      So macho from the start.

      • Interesting, didn't know that.

I wonder why bike messengers haven't adopted them for the same reason - perhaps also a perception of macho type thing?

I (a man) ride a bike with a milk crate on the back. Even wearing loose pants it is a challenge to get my leg over the seat as the natural way to do it would hit the milk crate (now imagine its a child!). Step through certainly has its benefits, at the expense of street cred… but almost all dutch bikes are like that.

      • Yeah, found out this when i added a rack/basket.

The main reason I got a non-step thru was to mount/keep my d-lock in the middle of the frame, but I could of kept that in the rack/basket.

Giant sells the Liv FLOURISH FS 2 and FLOURISH 4 as their woman's brand. Both suit your height.
I don't think gender really matters - its just marketing BS IMHO.

step throughs go back to the days when women wore dresses. There's probably also a bit of that side saddle mentality (from the dark ages, or current religious folk) of not breaking the hymen when mounting. The style of bike is logical for dress wearers, and those who don't have much flexibility.

that style of bike is called Dutch. This one looks OK. It's good that the rack is on the front - all of your weight is on the rear wheel. https://www.bicyclesonline.com.au/polygon-zenith-active-3-wo…

A quick look at the specs on that one, specifically the tyres - Shwalbe - I like - 26" x 2" No! I hate. Why put a fat tyre on a cruiser? Schrader valve - hallelujah- that's the first Schrader valve I've seen for ages.

      • what tyre would you put on a cruiser? Do you know what a cruiser is?

Considering that all the weight is on the rear, the tyre is the only suspension you have.

And you like schrader valves? The ironies continue. They're great for larger rims and high volumes; terrible for skinny (bicycle) rims. A hole is a weakness; a bigger hole is a bigger weakness than a smaller hole.

        • They worked for me with medium skinny tyres for many years with zero flats and hassle free pumping. Have you ever had a Schrader valve bike?

  • Some nice step-throughs and cruisers here. Some remind me of the old Malvern star dragster I had with the T bar 3 speed hub gears as a kid.

The only one of those Treks without a derailleur, which I don't want, has no gears and a coaster brake. Retro deluxe - that's got me thinking. Coaster brake, no problem. Could I do without gears, maybe.
