Apart from the price, there's no reason to purchase this unfortunately. The manufacturers option is a superior option and more compact, lighter too.

Which one do you refer to?

      • 12-24 gm f2.8?

        • +3

Um… that comes to my mind, too.

Apart from the huge price difference, the Sony option is actually heavier.

Thus I wasn't sure which one @BobSac was referring too

          Sony 12-24 GM F/2.8 is nearly $5,000 — 847g

          Sigma AF 14-24mm F/2.8 DG DN Art $1,350 — 795g

      Which do you refer to?

That is like saying there is no reason to purchase an A7 III because the A1 exists lol.

I did say "apart from the price".

The Sony version is 12mm wider, that's significant, it has a flatter field, better corner resolution, better AF etc.

I love Sigma and if you don't need 12&13mm and budget conscious, this is a good deal, but if you're making money from this lens, as I am, the price is virtually a non issue.

Also, the 22_24 f4 is tiny, light, better balanced, only a single stop less bright and much cheaper, perfect for everything that isn't night sky.

this is ozbargains not i can afford better stuff @ x4 the price because i make a living from [insert profession] .

Using that logic a $500 Nikon 24-24 f2.8 adapted is the better solution becuase it's simply cheaper.

You see, we can race to the bottom of product quality to reduce the price.

I'm out, have fun prioritising 'savings' over all other aspects for optics

Yeah but…. as a pro you can still get amazing results from the sigma. It's a HUGE prize difference. I actually came here to say that Sigma make great stuff but with the recent Tamron quality, I would save money and get a Tamron every time. With all these lenses, there's actually very, very little variance that anyone can actually spot.

Same reason I bought a Sony and not Canon this time around. I love Canon but there's a huge price premium on their gear now which while not un-warranted, made me look for cheaper options, such as Sony and the crazy amount of 3rd party lenses for their e-mount system.

But yes, top dollar will buy the absolute best, but the website is called ozbargains so unless you know of sony lenses that are going for a great price, this is a worthy post imo. But I would still be looking to tamron personally.

Lol, didn't realise ozb is for pro photography discussions.

The discussion should be around the % saving for a lens in this range. If that 5k lens was suddenly 1.5k - that's ozb

  • Reading about this lens and comparing with a similar Sony G master 12-24mm f2.8, the consensus is that its super comparable (except for the 2mm difference)

Just picking up photography as a hobby, this is defiantly in my wheel house. Can’t wait for it to get delivered!

Ultra wide is super fun. It's hard though. I definitely get a lot more 'eyeball friendly' shots out of my 28-75mm. I love ultra-wide though.

  • Will this be okay good for real estate interior photos? I have been using 16-35 and so far is wide enough without seeing any weird distortions

  • anyone used or tried out both the 12-24GM vs this sigma 14-24 DG DN before? what was their impression?
