131

This lovely piece of driftwood is perfect for fish and shrimp alike! Great to attach moss to as well.

It is about 15-20cm tall and you will receive a selected piece, the second image shows examples of pieces you could get. If you would like a specific type or colour just leave a note!

Driftwood is great for plants, shrimp and fish alike, many bottom-feeders get essential minerals from the wood while sucking on plant matter that grows on its surface, and it has plenty of surface area for beneficial bacterial and more to grow and help balance your tanks ecosystem.

Feel free to ask us any questions you may have!

What question do you most hate being asked?

    • +6

Haven't really encountered a frustrating question.

Maybe the most is people asking how tasty the shrimp are when we post about them? :)

      • +3

If I were to smoke those shrimps with this natural driftwood, how would it taste?

        • +15

Like the most expensive meal you have ever had probably.

  • +1

Can't people just collect drift wood from their local beach?

    • +12

Sort of; These pieces have been stripped and treated which make them safe to put in an aquarium.

If you want to put any wood you collect into your tank you are risking adding in something which could potentially kill all your fish.

You should definitely strip and at least boil anything which you plan to put into your tank which should kill most live potential issues, but there still is a small risk of some chemicals being introduced which would cause problems.

      • If the driftwood you sell is boiled/treated then won't it also prevent plant matter from growing in it and won't it also spoil some of the minerals on it?

        • +1

          Partially yes but not completely:

It wouldn't affect plant matter growing on it, that is to do with its texture not what would be lost in the treatment process. There definitely would be some beneficial chemicals/bacteria which is removed from the process, and that is the cost you would have to pay for making sure it is safe.

It doesn't mean there isn't anything left which would help: Raw vegetables are more healthy than cooked ones, but cooked vegetables are still healthy, while eating raw vegetables is dangerous unless you know what you are doing.

As I said before, you definitely can pick up random wood and put it in your aquarium, and if you get lucky and don't stumble upon anything poisonous it probably would have a more beneficial effect in total. But the risk is there hence why this product is available for those who don't want to do the research and treat their own wood but still want something safe.

Edit: Or don't live in places where nice looking pieces of wood are easy to find.

Initially, I thought I was looking at chicken feet.

I've got no need for driftwood but like OPs style. Be great if all associated were this responsive to our sometimes lame questions. / tips fedora

Thank you! This is a small side business for me, I'm no different than all you mongaloids here ;)

  • +1

This is actually a good deal - driftwood at chain pet stores is stupidly expensive (overpriced?).

    • +3

Thank you! I do hope its a good deal otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here :)

  • Great price for driftwood. My LFS charges about $40 for pieces slightly larger (which I donโ€™t buy at that price).

    • I need to get into the driftwood business !

  • Iโ€™m just here to say I love your attitude in your replies @Brandingo. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Iโ€™m considering getting one as a show piece to go with my succulents (yes I know this sounds ๐Ÿ˜ˆ โ€ฆ and Iโ€™m expecting some punny replies already!)

    • +1

Please start an onlyfans for that succulent wood

      • +1

        Start? ๐Ÿ˜

  • thought it was chicken feet.

    • Looks like Hydra vulgaris found in the clotshots..

      • -1

        Or a head crab

    • Thought this was a face-hugger for a split second

    • $18.99 for a stick?

      • A very nice looking stick which is not easy to find normally (it is a root-base) that has been treated and is safe to put into your aquarium.

You can see the chats above, but basically, getting any fauna from your local area is quite risky, but if you don't mind that you absolutely should do so instead.

    • Where is the wood sourced from?

      • From Malaysia or China, we sometimes alternate suppliers.
