These units are a great starter and a lot of fun for beginners to RC.

    Just note 4 things :

    1) These have a play time of about 7 mins from a full charge.

    2) These cannot be flown outdoors as sunlight interferes with the IR controls.

    3) As the controls are IR, don't lose Line of Sight with the remote.

    4) It is addictive and you'll want to spend more money on a better one.

      5) they last 1-2 hours! :)
I got 3 of them, they look good, they have a metallic "cage" but the tiny gears between the motor and the blades are made of cheap plastic. If(when) the blades hit a wall/ceiling/floor a couple of times those plastic gears break and don't rotate properly!

p.s. I got them last year from Miranda Westfield for 20$ each

      • So, as retail products - sold in AU - you should have 12 warranty protection.

Did you claim the benefit &, eg, get your money back or a replacement for each one?

        If not why not?

(After all, if the maker and/or vendor do not know about the issues you've raised, how can we expect them to invest in fixing them?)

Fair's fair… both to you, your kids (if they were also for them…;-) & the vendor & maker.

Just keep receipts, maybe take photos of those plastic bits you feel are faulty or built-in obsolescence & take your pic's along with your request for refund / replacement.

        (I suggest REFUND.)

Did you read what he wrote? They break when smashed into walls or the floor. This is not covered under any warranty, ever. Where did you pull the magical figure of 12 months warranty from?

  • Looks good. On ebay the cheapest around $43 delivered. Thinking of getting one but need to check what others look for in a remote controlled helicopter.

    • Start off with the E-flite Blade scout for around $60, the remote is 2.4ghz and parts are readily available online, also you can get spare lipo batteries with the scout. Check out the reviews online. You can purchase the scout from the Victorian Hobby Centre Melbourne CBD.

  • What's the usual price for this?

    • Usually, lightake sell it around $32.

  • 6 X AA for remote is a deal killer. Why don't they use 1 x 9V ??

    • With all the Eneloop deals from DSE / Jungle Jungle AA's that are affordable are within reach.

They use 6 AA's because you can charge the Unit from the remote as well (as via USB).

So if you are away from a USB charge point, you get a few more mins to play.

      • Do they include both the 6x AA cells -and- a 12vDC / 240vAC charger?

IF so, what mAh rating are the batteries?

PS I wonder how long these last if you -don't- fly them into walls/floors, etc.?

(That's really addressed to the guy whose 3 chopper died due to plastic bit failures, after they hit walls, etc.)

        • Hi Ivi, the package doesn't include 6x AA cells -and- a 12vDC / 240vAC charger, the Built-in rechargeable Lithium battery is 3.7V 180mAh, and the flying time last about 10-12 minute while fully charged, you can see the details on the product page: http://lightake.com/detail.do/sku.JXD_340_4_Channel_Remote_C…

    How is this four channel?

The TX is clearly only three channel (left stick can only go up/down, not left/right) and there's no functionality on the helicopter for moving sideways (eg. swashplate or additional propellers).

[Edit: my mistake, they appear to have a gyro gain knob on the TX, so that's their fourth channel. Still very misleading, as it's nowhere near as capable as most other 4-channel helis]

I'd keep saving up for a proper 4-channel radio controlled one; they're not too much more expensive (about $50 delivered from HobbyKing).

  • Are there any long-flying heli's out there (in the modestly priced hobbyist market)?

    A half-hour (min) would be nice…

How long to petro / gas heli's fly?

And… how much do they cost at that level of sophistication?

    TIA

    • It is possible to fly for half an hour on an electric heli, but it's a non-trivial exercise (link: http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t596284p1/). Most people fly them for more like 5 - 10 minutes depending on flying style. Nitro ones last a little bit longer, probably 8 - 15 minutes depending on flying style.

For endurance, you really want a petrol/gasser heli; the range seems to be 20 - 40 minutes for those.

Cost? Well, start at maybe $1500 and work upwards from there. Petrol helicopters are not cheap, and nor are electric to petrol conversion kits.

  • These are quite good for a bit of fun within the house!
I bought one of these from the shops for around $35 with no gyro, so this price is pretty good. Im guessing they ship form hong-kong or china though!
Mine has proved to be very strong! has handled a few big hits into walls and concrete floors.
    Worth the money

  • These do not come with the AA batteries, the mAh is dependant on the ones you put in yourself.

The one I got from LightTake previously were able to take a bit of punishment.

As expected, in the initial flights, you are getting used to the controls and will crash into walls, ceiling, drop dead, furniture…

I have run into a few things and the rotors were a little scratched even dented but still fully functional…and it came with spares anyway.

Things I did were, play on carpet first to mitigate immediate crashes from hitting something, power down when you are about to hit something HARD.

So far so good….I think people get into trouble when they go gangbusters and perform ‘Tokyo Drift’ from Day 1.

  • Silly question maybe but would this be suitable for say kids as young as 7?

    • Hi Sulmar, this RC copter is suitable for kids more than 12 years old!
