Razer Opus X Active Noise Cancelling Headphones - Feedback wanted

These are available for $80 in many places, but I am pretty sure they used to be higher in price.

Being on the cheaper side for ANC headphones I hope some users here would have experienced these headphones before, I'm thinking about giving them a go for $80.

If anyone has any feedback regarding these "Razer Opus X" ANC Headphones please comment below.
These are the cheaper "Opus X" not the "Opus" model which is a more expensive headphone.

Interesting thing about this headphone is claimed battery life is a regular 30 hours with ANC on, but Rtings tested them and they made it to a whopping 68 hours with ANC on.

Thank you in advance.

  • Maybe AKG N700NC M2 would be better at that price point? They're pretty much the defacto ANC for ~$100 and I wouldn't really trust a gaming brand to make good headphones.

    • I checked prices for the AKG N700NC, but I cannot currently find it under $100 unfortunately. I can see that they have been $99 at BingLee however they are out of stock.

They are going for $500 on Amazon AU so $100 would definitely be a bargain.

  • Ok I’m not gonna lie, I got this pair and I actually kinda like them. They do already have some decent passive noise cancelling and I was shocked when I turned on NC, for the price point i genuinely think it’s very decent. It’s definitely not as good as the Sony Xm4 in comparison but that’s also double it’s price.

However I’ve only used them once as it was more of a backup pair for travelling but for 80 bucks I am very happy about it. They’re pretty comfy for me too!!

Might potentially try it tomorrow if I have the time, hopefully more updates :D

    • You are sure they are the Razer "Opus X" model not the "Opus" model right? I suppose so since you mention they were $80.

Reading your comment definitely makes me more interested in trying them out.

I have read a few reviews, and from what they claim the noise cancelling is not "the best" at cancelling out loud low frequencies like those you would experience on a plane, but I don't intend to use them in that environment so I don't think I need the best ANC available.

Rtings says the ANC does quite a decent job of cancelling out mid to high frequencies such as AC units and ambient chatter such as people talking which sounds good to me.

The only concerns I have after reading more "Opux X" feedback, is there are some cases of cracking headbands which seems to be quite a common issue with all plastic headphones. From what I have found they seem to be more isolated cases, because in general the reviews seem to be quite positive overall.
In any case I am pretty sure most Australian retailers and Amazon AU will quickly provide a refund if there is such an issue.

Let me know if you try them out again soon. Would love to hear more feedback on the Opus X. Ta.

      • Hey there. Yeap, mine's definitely the Opus X (Mercury edition) which i got for 80 bucks :D

Just took it out of the box and gave it a test. Passive noise cancellation is definitely there and the pads are really comfy for me. I had my windows open and AC on, the AC sound was completely gone but i can still hear the slightest wind noises when ANC is on.

I tried playing a youtube video in the background and unfortunately, i would say the ANC isn't that good for speaking voices. It does reduce it a bit but not as significant as the AC / Wind noise.

I'm sure these headphones can last for a while given that decent care is provided. Again, its really comfy but unfortunately i cant speak of its durability and battery duration as I dont use em that much as i only use them as a backup pair.

Overall, i still stick with my previous review, worth for the price, especially since u can use it with Bluetooth. Hopefully that helps :) Do note YMMV as I'm not really a picky person.

P/S: they make this cute sound when turning on and off :D

        • Thanks for following up.

Yeah I hear wind noise is also there on some more expensive ANC models. I guess it depends on the design but having air directly pass over the ANC microphones must be hard for the ANC to deal with.

Thanks for the speaking voices test. I assume you did both this test and the test above with nothing playing on the headphones?
I intend to use them while playing content so that will probably mask any quieter sounds that manage to get through the ANC.

What I did read up on is the "Opus" has 4 microphones, 2 external and 2 internal. While the "Opus X" just has the 2 external microphones. The internal microphones on more expensive models probably help to deal with reducing wind noise as well, as they measure what is going on inside the cups and cancel out some more sounds. I assume this is almost like "double" active noise cancellation, I think the 4 mic system is referred to as "feedback" ANC.

I am not a picky person either and I have regular sized ears which are pretty flat on my head so I usually don't have any issues with fitment due to the size/shapes of the earpads.
The reason I am looking at these cheaper ANC models is due to being sensitive to perceived cabin pressure. So I am really looking for something that's on the weaker side of ANC so my ears aren't being blasted with loud constant monotone signals.

I am pretty careful with my stuff too so I reckon the Razer Opus X is worth a try. I was going to go with the Mercury color too BTW.
