QLD $175 Cost of Living / Electricity Rebate

back in may the QLD gov announced a $175 cost of living rebate to compensate for increased energy prices and it should have been automatically applied by the electricity retailer (origin in my case) but that didn't happen. I got charged the normal amount for the past quarter.
Has anybody made different experiences is there something I'm missing?

  • The latest information we've received is that you should receive your rebate by the last quarter of this year. If you are expecting the rebate and have not seen it on your bill, contact your electricity provider first.

  • i got a message from nectr and it said would be applied on 31 august:

As you may know, the Queensland Government recently announced that all households will be eligible to receive a $175 Cost of Living Rebate later this year. This rebate builds on the $50 Asset Ownership Dividend (AOD) payment that we contacted you about (following its announcement in early 2022), providing Queenslanders with a total combined rebate of $175.
    What you need to know:
    · The $175 rebate (GST exempt) will be applied to all eligible residential customer accounts on 31 August 2022. You will be able to see the rebate applied to your next bill from as early as September 2022.
    · The process will run automatically, there is no need to contact us to have your rebate applied.
    · It is a one-off credit to your customer account. If you join a new retailer from 31st August, then the rebate will be applied by them when you receive your first bill.
    · You will be able to view the applied rebate on your September bill via our Nectr app.

  • sorry for the dumb question.

I've got solar in my house and my electricity bill is quite low these days - will the $175 be applied as credited to my account so I can pay off as my bills come monthly?

Couldn't find any info on my provider's site.

  • Thank you very much.
I've been in contact with origin energy as well and can confirm, they will start using the $175 credit on the 31st of August.

I've got solar as well and I've been told that it's like a "store credit" and can be used over as many bills as you like. I will probably be good for the next 1-2 years…unless it keeps raining like the past few months😅
