    Second hand on Market Place

Yep, Marketplace or Gumtree best bet.

Rebel sport will sell some basic sets for $200-$230 that go up to 50kg if you can't find anything.

Amazon isn't a good option for weight plates as it's always 3rd party sellers with exorbitant shipping

Make your own with milk/water jugs. I heard you can also use concrete. Just get the bar 2nd hand.

You won't be able to "drop" these weights though, like they love doing at the gym.

Should be plenty of "how to" and info online for DIY.

    Hex dumbbells from Kmart

Just go to a proper gym. Most home gym goers don't last long

    • Doesn't matter if the gym is in the next suburb or the next room, it's up to your own willpower.

Heard this a 100 times. Most people who has a home gym quit after a year. Its the hard truth

And some people who have memberships just don't go and you can get a lot done in just a year.

          • @The Value: Exactly right. But at least you're only paying for a duration of time and have access to most equipments. Whereas, with home gym you would have paid a fixed cost for something that you would most likely not use for long-term.

            • @Kongzi: Buy quality 2nd hand gear and sell at similar price if you are done with it. Quality stuff holds it value. All the cheap multi station machines that fall apart are where people will lose money.

I've been using these for the past 3 months, good quality set and do the job. $150 for 50kg is a steal imo

Looked into this a few months ago, Sumo Strength ended up looking the best for proper home gym.
Barbell plus 70KG Bumper plates for about $600 posted

Aldi sell barbell and dumbell once every year which are best bang for buck, but they were sold about 3months ago.. so a long wait.
