  • What's a good lens for this camera

    • +1

Any of the Panasonic Summilux Leica lenses.

Although, like any good lens, it'll cost you more than the body.

    • +2

Really depends on what you wanna do with it.
In general, higher mm lens has more zoom and lower has more fisheye. 50mm prime is generally considered pretty good for portraits and similar to the human eye. But then the size of sensor inside the camera also affects this so don't 100% rely on anything I'm saying as it is different for different cameras.
Higher F stop let's less light in and lower F stop let's more light in, which means you can snap photos at a higher shutter speed without them getting as dark. So a lower F stop lens is better for shooting faster motion stuff.

It all depends on what you want to do with it, lenses are actually quite expensive so it's most likely if you don't have a specific use case you'd go with the cheapest multi-zoom lens like the 45mm-150mm one.

Thanks. A general low cost all purpose lens. I am planning to flip it.
I am guess this will appeal more to the vlogger market.

      Sigma primes are good

      My favourite

      Voigtlander's Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens

Slap it on and never take it off..

    No Image Stabilization…meh…

    • Yeh, but you can't expect much from a cheap mirrorless. They're not bad cameras, but I wouldn't buy one myself. Just doesn't fit my needs.

      • How is it for shooting photos? The Sony ones I see that are always recommended seems to be a lot pricier…

        • I can't speak for this specific camera, but knowing Panasonic, and Olympus, 4/3's cameras, they're fairly solid, but missing a lot of the features of something like a Sony mirrorless. The sensors are quite different, with the 4/3 sensor being quite small compared to the APS-C sensor in the Sony.

The main question you have to ask yourself is: do you want to buy into 4/3 lenses or Sony lenses? Sony lenses are rock solid, but 4/3's can be a bit hit & miss. I loved my Olympus 4/3 300mm (equivalent to a 600mm on a full frame), but the macro was a bit less clear than I expected.

I moved on to Nikon since, purely because of the lack of proper image stabilisation on the Olympus cameras at the time.

    • would it be worth the extra for something like this https://www.amazon.com.au/Olympus-Megapixels-Stabilizer-Elec… ?

      • If it's body only, it doesn't worth $500.

    • Panasonic 4/3, at least in the old days, had OIS in the lenses instead of the camera with Olympus.

Kinda tempted to get this to replace my old G3 to go with my 20mm, 60mm and 45-200mm……. The question is that I haven't shot with the G3 for years, would I start again if I buy this??????

  • Was thinking about grabbing this to use as a nicer webcam but I just looked at reviews of it on youtube and think I'll pass

    • Record Time Limit In 4k: 10 min
    • Record Time Limit in FHD: 30 min (24fps), 20 minutes (60fps)

That doesn't seem long for a camera that's marketed for vlogging

    • I'm confused, the scores they gave for the record limits doesn't seem to be low but these time limit numbers definitely seems so, am I missing something here?

    • +1

Thank you, will add the review to post description.

  • Is this a big upgrade on a em5 mk1

    • depends, it got newer processor and 20MP image, but only 1/500 mechanical shutter, and really small, maybe matter to some.

    • +1

this also has VLOG and external mic input

    • I think the big difference is this doesn't have IBIS. It might actually be a downgrade in some respects.

    • How about compared with a 2011 Olympus Pen E-P3

      • Yes

        • Much better then?

  • How does this compare to this EOS M50 Mark II deal? I recently picked up the latter for $656, but now having second thoughts. My use case is street photography and the occasional videoconference.

    • +1

Although the EOS M50 has a slightly larger sensor, I believe the performance from both cameras is pretty comparable.

    • +1

This is body only, lenses will be couple hundred on top. Don't think there is a point unless you already got 4/3 lenses already.

  • -4

This is junk. Do not buy.

    • reasoning?

  • +1

Do the recording limits affect its use as a webcam?

  • -1

It is tempting when you first look at it, then ask yourself…

When is the last time you pick your camera? Especially for those who has a flagship smartphone came out in the past 36 months.

Then you realize how much you don't need a cameras anymore…

    • +1

Ended up buying one since there haven't been a body this low in price in a long time, but the main factor was because I already have the lenses invested and with a decade old G3 body. 309 to bring life to the old lenses is worth it, and I could probably sell it all as a bundle later on. If I am lucky, I can probably get a few bucks for the G3 body as well.

But its definitely not worth it if you are not already invested in the ecosystem.

      • +1

precisely - I've an old Micro Four Thirds Camera model and a bunch of quality lenses - I want to upgrade the body and I think this is perfect

the smartphone is great for most of the time but when I want some extra special photographs, not just quick snaps, this will trump any smartphone paired with a quality lens

        • +2

Not to mention that all the other bodies are high end and expensive as.

Since the advant of the smartphone cameras, m43 had definitely moved up market. There used to be options in the 500 price point, but now? Only two premium bodies was released this year and both are 3k plus. Even the G9 (with the same gen sensor as this) is still 1k. The only comparable price is the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III at 500 dollar price point.

I think this one is not selling well because it was marketed as a video/blogging cam, and it does a pretty crappy job of it. But as a camera, it looks like its decent enough. Especially for the price point.

      • I have a few M43 lens too…..

If this has OIS, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Without it is just not worth it.

        • +1

If it has OIS, it wouldn't be in this price range. Beside, Panasonic usually places it in their lenses, my 45-200 has OIS, and the 20mm 1.7 and 60mm 2.8 don't, but they are much faster anyways.

          • @dyziplen: Sorry my wrong, mean IBIS…

I had G5 before then A6000 plus two Fuji on the side. Still I remember how good when I got my hands on the GX85 with IBIS. Would not buy another camera without it.

Having said that, like I said I don't feel the need of a camera for ages, not when I have an iPhone 13 pro and my wife has a S22 Ultra.

        • +3

          No body has OIS

G100 does have 5-Axis HYBRID I.S System with compatible O.I.S lenses

Also there's a reason high end video cameras don't have stabilisation built in.. including video oriented cameras like the GH5S.

This is a compact designed VLOG camera. It makes sense. Considering gimbals, O.I.S. Lenses, 5-Axis HYBRID I.S System and powerful post editing software like Warp Stabilizer are readily accessible and easy to use..

Inbuilt camera I.S. isn't great for vlog on the go recording style.. so buy a gimble which is.. fix the rest in post.

Yeah it has its limitations. But stopping and starting after 10 minutes isn't a big deal. Ten continual minutes is a pretty long vlog..

For $309 it'll produce amazing video in the right hands.

          • +1

@stickymoo: Yeah, even the ultra expensive video oriented Canon R5C does not have IBIS ;-)

  • Crazy price!
