Did you have the same model as this? This is the steel case version that normally sells for $29 or so. It reviews well, is solidly built and runs pretty cool. I have two of them and haven't had an issue. They also have a two year warranty.
The 8 port switch is also on sale at the moment
Yup I did! Definitely this model. I must have gotten a dud ha. I posted my experience on a deal on it before and someone said the same thing. But good thing Amazon return experience has always been hassle free.
I can't seem to find a sale for the 8 port switch, do you have a link handy? Thanks!
@chossenger: thanks!
Unfortunately it already sold out 😭
Would it be worthwhile paying the extra $5 for this gigabit switch over the LS1005G for $14?
Nothing wrong with the one you linked. It's plastic but that doesn't affect performance whatsoever
These two switches do differ in specs somewhat if you look up on TP-Link website but not in a way that will affect 99.9% users as both will perform for gigabit operations identically.
Just bought the LS1005G
I'm using my old modem as a 4 port switch.
Modem/router will likely have higher power consumption than a switch (20-30w vs 2-3w).
Edit: but if you are using the modem as a modem anyway then ignore my comment.Thought of the power consumption but it was an immediate solution at that moment, just disabled the DHCP server and now it is just being used as a switch. Modem/Router is a different set up altogether at my place.
I did that for a while, and it can work well. But for the average user it can be a bit of a bugger to set it up right, and as another person said it will use more power (and it also taked up more space than this).
These switches you just plug and play and almost guaranteed no network issues. Get a bit of double sided tape and stick it somewhere out of the way and forget about it.
Is it a POE compatible one?
This doesn't provide PoE
Thanks, can you suggest one with poe…
Depends on your intended use and budget but this might be a good start:
https://www.tp-link.com/au/business-networking/unmanaged-swi…
supports POE+ for power hungry devices. Does not do VLANs or anything fancy if you wanted to segregate your network.@9839002: Thanks mate.
Might be OOS.
Had this but returned it because of frequent drop outs. I opted for a netgear prosafe model but still under 40dollars and the dropouts and disconnections were gone.
