  • Great camera for both photo and video, not as good as Sony but that are a lot more and their lens are more expensive

These are fantastic for wildlife and sports photography. The 4/3 crop means that every lens has a much longer effective range, and the smaller filesize means the processor can shoot faster and longer - 20FPS. Compare that to the A7II's 5FPS, and it's a no-contest. The autofocus is so, so much better than the A7II as well, but that's not hard because the A7II's Autofocus ability is best described as "Yes, it has autofocus."

If you're looking to get good photos of the kids at their soccer game, or pictures of birds in the wild, the G9 is gonna win out over the A7II every day of the week. If you're shooting mostly low light with well-framed non-moving subjects, the A7II is gonna be better.

Yes, by nature a full frame sensor would have its own advantage with image capture. However MFT cameras would be easier to carry on longer trips and easier to pan due to lighter lenses. Better BIS (easier to implement on smaller sensors). Also has more features as the G9 is 3 years newer, has a fully functional touch screen (not half done like the A7 II). I had the G9 and 100-400mm telephoto (=FF 200-800mm). An equivalent FF would be over twice that weight, try panning it quickly to follow the subject ;-)
So, it is depending on your use case, G9 would be good for travelling, long walks or when you are not planning ahead for photo shoots. The best camera is the one that you have with you at the time, and I don't take my full frame everytime I go out ;-)

Its not the best price ever but still quite decent.
For a mix of photo and video, you are going to get better value out of the G9 vs the A7II. For example, you get oversampled 4K 50P and 180fps FHD.
A7ii is going to have better low light capabilities for the same ISO. However, because of the stabilisation on G9 you can handhold a lot slower shutter speeds. You also get the tripod in-camera high res mode on the G9 for 80MP landscape images.

    • I want to upgrade my em1-mk1, do you think this is a good option?

      • Yes it is for the price, unless you can afford the e-m1 mk III or e-m1x.

        • I do not want to spend that much on a mk3 or OM-1, the mk1 is a bit dated and I want to take some sports photos for my kids.

          • @wangsk: G9 at this price is excellent bang for buck then. I owned one myself, fortunate enough to come across the last OB deal when it was sub $1k (first post up top). I got a lot of keeper photos out of it, used mainly with the Leica 12-60mm general purpose lens.
