On what machine? Never heard of a USB not working as a boot drive. In a pinch I've even used a USB card reader with a microsd in it as a boot drive.
I have installed linux on these multiple times no issues
yep same just used one as a Ubuntu drive to fix another machine up
I only use Sandisk & have used the tiny ones for live distributions & boot disks.

Have not heard this - are you sure you had secure boot set up with third party CA? Had that problem recently when fresh installing W11.

had a similar one years ago, the plastic that covers the USB connector ended up breaking, and it made a horrible noise every time i inserted it. Also, usually the small USB drives tend to overheat a lot.
At the turning point where most of the devices I use have USB-C ports now
