Currently we have a few subscription options to keep the keen bargain hunters informed. However, if you feel that even RSS is way too slow, OzBargain new deals are now also posting on Twitter, in real time!
For the uninformed, Twitter is a combination of social networking, mini-blogging and presence/status management. You get to post a short string of message via either its website, IM, SMS or its API, and your "followers" get immediately notified. So for now, whenever a new deal gets created on OzBargain, it also gets posted on Twitter!
The best thing is, if you are a friend of OzBargain (go to OzBargain's twitter page and add it as a friend!), it will also appear on your own Twitter page. Moreover, if you have signed up notification via IM or SMS, you will also get instant notification this way.
Currently Twitter supports AIM, Google Talk or Jabber/XMPP, and that is how I get my immediate notification. I have not tried SMS but I think it would incur a charge from the mobile phone carrier.
How do I sign up?
- Create a free Twitter account
- Go to OzBargain's Twitter page
- Click on "add ozbargain" on the right
- Go to your phone & IM setting page
- Set it up to receive instant notification from your friends
