Best Cheap Prepaid Sim with Long Expiry?

Hey guys,

Going to give dating apps a try. I dont want to use my personal phone number when signing up though as I work in the defence industry.

I'm after a burner sim for my second phone to purely receive authenticating msgs when you sign up. I have a second gen iPhone SE laying around i'll be using for this which isn't my main phone.

What are my options and what do you guys recommend based on your experience?

Cheers

  • Not sure if this helps but I use the Woolworth's 12month, $150 unlimited calls and text sim.

Main savings is that I get 10% off one shop per month. If I use that on an approximately $150 shop (weekly family shopping can do that fairly easily and then some), $15 off over 12 months, the approximately $180 discount per year covers my phone bill plus some.

Down side is that it is on Telstra's wholesale network which is not as good as their normal network

That seems a bit expensive just for receiving authenticating msgs.

A cheaper option is Aldi $5 starter pack in store or online. Lasts 365 days on PAYG plan & includes $5 credit.
Make sure you turn off data so you don't burn through the $5.

      • Yeah, pretty case specific if you are going to save money or not with my method.

In my case the discounts on Woolworth groceries that I'm going to buy anyway means I'm actually saving money over the year (recouping the initial $150 costs plus additional savings on groceries)

But since OP is single (assuming they are not married and trying to have a little to rompy pompy on the side….burner phone…..hmmmm…..) then they probably won't get as much of a benefit to offset the costs.

Optus Flex - sign up for a day at $1, cancel - number stays active for 6 months and you can receive calls and sms
at the end of six months, recharge $1 - rinse and repeat.
    2$/year.

Just checked this out. Currently also has a free 7 day trial to use their e-sim option (new numbers only).

      • can this plan receive text while overseas?

    • Did Optus remove this option? Or do you get a pro rata refund if you cancel after a day after signing up to the $12 7 day plan

      • I still have the option on my side - but all Optus flex accounts are being migrated to their new offers so that option won’t work in the near future.

Next best option is now Amaysim - $10/year.

        • Thanks, yes I did a bit of digging and can see the $1 plan is only for existing customers. Will look into amaysim

  • i wonder about this aswell..as many of us aware 1 year sims card for voda on sales $130 but anything cheaper only for calls and abit of data like 1GB?

  • I did what @Thibaultn said. Signed up to Optus for a day and then cancelled it. Worked like a charm.

    • esim or physical ? If physical, which sim you bought to start the process ?
