Get a Dell UltraSharp U2412m for Only $1 When You Buy Any Alienware Laptop or Desktop

101

Long time reader, first time poster - Came across this deal which looks awesome, when I was randomly looking at Alienware prices. The deal is basically this - purchase any Alienware laptop or desktop (imo Laptops are the only one worth purchasing from Alienware) and receive a U2412m for only $1 extra. This is actually a pretty good deal if you're looking at a laptop as well (which I was) because the cheapest they are otherwise are $279 during deals.

I have a u2412m already, so I can say it's a damn good screen especially for only $1 extra. Of course the downside is you have to spend at least $1,799 (cheapest Alienware laptop) to get it, but you can always try and sell it and make the cash back? Or use it as dual screens like I do.

Can you buy 2 monitors for $2?

    • Probably not. Check and tell us all! :P

      • I checked on their terms and conditions, only 1 unfortunately,,

  • +6

Has anyone on these forums ever bought from Alienware? That is what I want to know.

    • A friend of mine had an alienware, it was really cool, pretty good build quality. They're gaming laptops designed for gamers, and have all the usual bells and whistles a gaming laptop would have. The problem is they've been bought out by dell. :( They're also really expensive (literally double the US price). I'd probably get one if i was in the US, but the Aussie tax strikes again.

      • Recent checks show not double, but about $500 price difference. Ie: $2000 in USA, $2500 in Australia for the exact same specs.

        • +1

          $700 for the M14x

        • You're not looking at the price. The specs on the Aussie m14x is MUCH higher. A fair comparison would be if you compare the two on equal terms.

Though I agree, I would like to be able to choose from the American version of prices.

    • Yea I have, the laptops because no laptop even comes close to it in performance. Though I got my friend to get a discount and ship it to me from the USA because of how much I saved.

      • +2

No laptop comes close to alienware?

Clevo? Its using an i7-3820K (yes theres a K in there) desktop cpu.

Alienware has always been just overpriced mood lights.

        • Clevo laptops were always pieces of hulk, but yes they can compete with Alienware lappy's (if you wanted to burn holes through you tables)

Alienware M18x r2 - 3920XM does turbo up to 4.1ghz. Also the graphics options are FAR below the M18x's 7970m CF (which is apparently better than the DEsktop GTX 590).

However, i'm sure this could go on all year, so there's no real point. You want clevo, I don't. Simple.

        • +2

I'm on my m18x at the moment, serious overkill for ozbargain. Build quality is awesome, most solid case i've seen arround other than something like a toughbook. Dual video- exceptional but you must have it on a power supply to use them effectively or it's super chunky. SSD is a must if your going to get one.
I bought mine about 9 months ago when my rig died. It is hands down the best laptop i've ever used but also the most expensive, by a long way. Customer service has been great, they will follow up with you until you're happy.
Not sure if alienware is really welcome at ozbargain, as you can definately buy cheaper

    • Yes I made a purchase after seeing a deal posted here last year.

      Now you know.

And have enough cash left to buy TWO U2412M Monitors at their normal $279….
    Or a U2412M AND a SSD!

This: http://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3928 is probably the best laptop you can buy, its super duper good!

    • Lol that's a funny. See here - http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Alienware-M17x-R4-Notebo… (and more importantly here - "overall, the 7970m high end card (which is in the M17x r4 for $2350) leads the Radeon HD 6990 or GeForce GTX 675M with a 50% average speed advantage across 18 games in 1920x1080 with maximum details". (The MSIGT70 has a 670m, which is even worse than the 675m and costs the same as an r4). Scroll down to the comparison between the GT70 and the r4 in gaming performance.

Not trolling here, just laying down the facts.

      • +1

Only the top model M17x comes standard with a 7970 and that's $2800.
The MSI will be noticeably MUCH faster with 2 SSd's in raid 0 and still much much cheaper then an alienware with the same specs.
If your just after gaming then Alienware is still a ripoff, yeah you can get the base model and put a 7970 in for $2370 BUT its here: http://www.affordablelaptops.com.au/contents/en-us/d387_meta… for $1800 and has a 7970 also. Save $570.

  • The other day it was free with any Alienware laptop or desktop.

You'd still be saving more if you bought a custom built laptop or desktop with similar or better specs then bought the monitor separately.

    • Custom built laptop? Wtf?

      • Metabox are pretty close to custom built. Can choose matte / glossy, ship with no hard drives / choose your OS or ship with none etc. Much, much cheaper too.

        • That's 50% custom built. You can't choose the ram brand or cpu type (amd or intel) etc. Calling that custom built means you have to say Alienware's are custom built.

Price wise, I wanted to check, but the bloody thing wants an email for pricing, no instant prices.

        • he did say pretty close :P

    • It still is? OP even included it in the title

      • $1 now.. It was completely free the other day.

        • Oh dear.. $1, I hope you don't have to take a loan out. :P

  • Awww they discontinued the m11x, as an owner of the m11x r2 im sad :. Great laptop btw certainly better than a 13" macbook pro IMO. The m11x r3 even has a better battery life and performance than the macbook pro

An Ozbargainer does'nt buy Alienware. They buy http://www.metabox.com.au/ or similar (Clevo)

    Better specs, better price.

      • +2

Anyone with a brain in their skull would buy a desktop for gaming and a laptop with a >30min battery life for mobile use.

Makes zero sense to me. You get a laptop which is supposed to be light and mobile, yet weighs a ton and chews through battery too quick, and costs twice the price as a good PC yet plays games poorly in comparison.

        • +2

I bring my laptop over my friend's frequently to casually game. It sure is easier than carrying around my corsair 800d that weighs 50 metric tons. Plus the cables, plus the keyboard, plus the monitor…and its cables.

Anyone with a brain knows what gaming laptops are for. Theres a huge market for people who frequently lan and really cant be bothered taking apart their setup everytime.

        • Edit: Double post.

        • -2

I wouldn't say huge market. I'd say small market.

Much easier to just bring your box and have spare peripherals sitting at your friends house. That way you have 1 expensive PC that performs ridiculously well compared to a PC and one over-priced under performing laptop. Anyone with half a brain will recognise this fact.

    • Hate it when they dont give you a live price.

      Waste my time for nothing.

Edit: not a rep, and pretty sure i didnt click that button…

  • -4

I find it ironic that Alienware is supposed to be filling a niche PREMIUM gaming laptop market, then goes ahead and cheapens the brand in a desperation deal to sell units.

Its like Audi selling a car then saying, pay $1 extra and we'll throw in $10,000 worth of car cleaning products. They don't have to because people know that they are paying premium for a premium car (i.e. you're getting what you pay for… a superior product).

Apologies to the OP in advance, but everyone on OzBargain knows that this deal wreaks of desperation. If you are 100% sure your product is top quality and the demand is there then there's no need for "Pay $1 more and get this other awesome product so our product looks a tiny bit more enticing because you probably wouldn't buy it anyway!!".

    • you have got to be kidding me? who negged my comment?

that post summed up why people don't buy Alienware.

    • Obviously the negs dont agree with you, thats all, I have nfi who they are tho.

You said everyone on OzB knows this deal wreaks of desperation but its still got more positive votes than negative.
Dell generally dont discount Alienware products so when there is an opportunity to get something extra from it I guess the positive voters agree its a good deal.
If you were in the market for one of their machines you just got a bonus.
I dont know how offering extras on a brand cheapens it, they havent lowered the price.
If anything it probably cheapens the monitor.

I dont think your post summed up anything…imo.
But dont take it personally. :)

      • -5

actually they have cheapened the price indirectly, hence why the monitor is included, so you're wrong on that account.

that is the other point, no one is ever in the market for an Alienware product because there are cheaper, superior products in the market. that is the point you're missing here.

let me ask you this. have you bought an Alienware product or do you know anyone who has?
my post was spot on and is indicative of what most if not all OzBargainers are thinking.

you are a minority my friend.

        EDIT:
Read the post below mine. the poster summed it up with:

"AND they look freaking sweet with all the lights and such."

        • -1

You continue to claim things like "no one" and "everyone" when its really just your pov and an assumption.
You're not speaking on behalf of the majority and I aint the minority, just differing points of view.
Dont forget there are five others that also disagreed with your claim, I posted my reply instead of clicking the anonymous neg button.

Yes, I do own Alienware products so does that make me more qualified to discuss the deal than you?
imo its a superior product and I made the purchase after seeing a deal posted here last year.

I skimmed over the post below yours and I'll quote this from it:
"so at the end of the day each to their own."

        • -4

doesn't change the fact that you got ripped off because you're attracted to flashing lights and gimmicks :)
if you had done your research correctly you would find much better laptops for cheaper prices.

        • -1

I didnt say I bought an Alienware laptop.

I do however have an ASUS G73H and if you want flashing lights and gimmicks then that probably ticks all the boxes. So I guess I could be considered guilty as charged by the ill-informed but the lights weren't a factor.
Its was as cheap as chips price wise and plays the latest games like D3, BF3 and SWTOR with no issues at all.
Its not my main gaming rig but is great for gaming when I travel overseas, albeit a little heavy.

I cant afford to leave a bunch of peripheral's overseas or at each mates place for LAN's. I know its probably easier but how is that practical let alone cost effective?

I'm pretty happy with the research I do re purchases, not perfect but adequate.
Still only 1 -ve on the deal.

        • -1

"no one is ever in the market for an Alienware"

I've seen people with Alienware laptops though

"because there are cheaper, superior products in the market"

I've also seen people driving Audi cars too….

        • -2

and how many people have you seen using Alienware laptops? chances are you can count them on one hand. that is my point.

a price for an Audi is justified (maybe not in Australia, but in Europe where they are manufactured). Audi make fuel efficient, high performance cars using advanced engineering coupled with premium materials.

alienware sell over-priced devices which are worth less than the sum of their parts. its as simple as that. you can buy a laptop with the same internal parts for much less.
          am I wrong?

I'd love to hear from someone who actually made use of this deal?

        • -2

who voted me down again? prove me wrong.

  • +1

My take on alienware laptops & computers.

They are NOT the best bang for buck and you can get other laptops from a lot of other manufacturers that technically have higher specs.

What makes an Alenware computer 'special' is they are designed and setup with gamers in mind, so things such as HDD/SSD speeds, graphics card, RAM type and CPU (including clock speeds) are carefully selected to give what they see to be optimum performance for a gamer. …AND they look freaking sweet with all the lights and such.

What i find a little absurd is that these are somehow expensive but many people will happily pay 2k+ for a macbook, so at the end of the day each to their own.

    • -1

People forget that you can actually overclock Alienware laptops, and leave them overclocked for games as well, something you can't do with MSI or what not. The performance to power ration you can eek out of these setups is beyond amazing.

And yes, they're flashy and have a very high build quality too :)

      • High build quality? The hinge on their laptop is wobbly, soft plastic construction, 45min battery life..

Don't know what you are on about high build quality.

        • +1

Well I guess when you have a powerful laptop you get low battery life?

        • Read any website review. Anyone, they'll tell you the construction is fantastic. Don't know what you are on tbh. Quote " We especially liked the gummed soft touch surfaces, with good workmanship leaving an impression of quality. In regards to quality, most competitors can't touch the M17x."- Notebookcheck (again, read any respectable website)

And 45 mins? Are we just picking things out of the air now? I guess I can do the same.. Unicorns had sex with Aliens to make humans. Aren't we both living superficial lies that we choose to believe?

You'll get 4 hours (none gaming), but in all honesty.. you're not going to be gaming without the power cord. That's like buying a mac to game. Not going to happen, so it's silly to assume something like that.

  • If anyone's buying an Alienware laptop but doesn't want the monitor, PM me. ;)

    • +1

And I'll pay $2 for it. PROFIT!!

    • -3

thats the catch, noone buys from Alienware, hence Alienware will never have to get rid of the monitors.

  • +3

    Alienware is soo overpriced..
