  • That's a lot of money for AC19s wifi5

    • Well… it will serve a large part of the population fine…

People goes on non stop about wifi6 ACXXXX (insert your own number) and wifi6… wont make much difference to alot of people.

In our household, 10+ device, game, occasion streaming, NAS, and so forth. This set up is more than fine.

Asus AiMesh is possibly one of the more customisable mesh setup available.

      • Yea but you also need to see this as an investment, for almost the same price you can get a wifi 6 like the other day AX1900 was for 85 or something and that can be turned into a mesh.

Understandably wifi5 will serve or is serving the population fine but if your re spending money on a router in 2022 youight as well get something that services the next few years.

For someone who moved from wifi5 to 6, it has made a significant difference to my internet and data transfer to other devices. NAS has less lag, transfer between devices is faster and I am able to get most out of my bandwidth

      • You won't know you needed it until you try a wifi 6 ;)

It will make a lot of a difference to a lot of people. Just because you don't see the use case. Longer battery life, less congestion, more devices, faster speeds.

Grandma & grandpa might have under 10 devices.
We have 23+ wifi devices (lights, power, speakers, smart devices,TVs, phones, tablets, notebooks). Beautifully meshed together.

        • Absolutely, I have about 40 devices and you can see the difference right away.

        • FWIW I have over 60 simultaneously connected devices across 4 "wifi 5" nodes and I can make the most of my bandwidth easily.

Copying over gigs of stuff to and from the NAS is fast. If wifi speed is ever a concern, I'll just Ethernet it, but it never has been.

I get that wifi 6 is better in many ways, but off my experience, I agree that most people won't need it just yet.

  • I have a RT AC-88U router and looking to expand and use AiMesh. Would love some advice on getting this, or pair of RT AC-68U, which seems to be a more common recommendation.

    • Oh, never mind. Have worked out that AC67U is newer than AC68U, with slightly better specs.

  • D-Link Covr AX1800 dual pack is same price at PC Byte. free shipping, too

why would you choose last gen WiFi when you can have this gen

    • +3

Most people on here would happily pay more for Asus over D-Link. As for most things, you get what you pay for. The covr does have the unique appeal of 4 ports on the router, so you don't need to combine it with a switch, but the reviews are a little mixed

      • I have this set at home, 1 unit at either end of the house, connected by powerline backhaul

        runs without issues

  • +1

I just picked up 2x RT-AC86U from Officeworks for $50 and $55 each, looks like they are on clearance "prices as marked", if you can find any near you they're an insanely good option at that pricing.

    • Where did you get it? Have a photo?

      • would like to know too. a steal. happy to pay you to pick up two for me from your local store. out of stock for the entire NSW

        • Unfortunately it looks like most of the stock has cleared out pretty much nationwide, can absolutely post some receipts later, but its clearance pricing so you'd have to be very very lucky to get someone at JB Hi-fi etc to price match it.

  • with AIMesh, I should be able to connect a PC directly to one of these nodes? Only trying to avoid getting a wireless card for a full tower desktop. Cheers. Edit: Looks like I can. Grabbed a pair. Thank you.
