Good Affordable HDMI Cable for 4k 120hz

I have just purchased the 77" G1 and plan to wall mount it. Is there a good thin HDMI 2.1 cable that Ozbargain recommends? I would like it to be around 3m and support 4k 120hz. Been getting a bit overwhelmed with all the options and have been burned in the past with some amazon cables that didn't meet the specs stated.

Thanks :)

UGREEN is a pretty reliable brand and seem to make every accessory under the sun.

This $30 braided one should do well: https://www.amazon.com.au/UGREEN-Support-Dynamic-Compatible-…

What you'll want to do is get a HDMI certified cable and verify the certification: https://www.hdmi.org/spec21sub/ultrahighspeedcable

    • Thanks, I think I will go with the one you have recommended.

I have never found a good thin HDMI cable, except for HDMI 1. I have found usually the thicker the HDMI cable the more copper is used and the more shielding is used and braided if possible, so the cable is usually better.

When lo0oking at HDMI cables I look at the photo's of the cable end in order to see how thick the cable is compared to the HDMI connector and if it's thinner than the ones I am used to I do not touch it, but if it is the right spec HDMI 1.x or 2.y that I need and it's the right length then I will go to the physical computer store and check it out before buying it as sometimes the photo's are wrong.

For best success, once you found the brand of cable you trust the most, is to order the shortest length possible for your use.

I just got burn too recently spending $69 on 3 cables (Snowkids on Amazon) and the 3m one didn’t work with my Panasonic 4k player and Denon amp (fuzzy pink image, sound issues etc), but ok straight to TV. That’s when I learned about HDMI certification etc. I ordered a couple of certified Bridgee 3m cables and no issues. Here’s what I got: BRIDGEE Certified 8K HDMI 2.1… https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B095CVKD8G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_s…

Coles have 3m blaupunkt one for under $20 - says it is 8k?

    • I grabbed one yesterday for $12.99. It's a well constructed HDMI 2.1 ARC 8K@ 69Hz/4K @ 120Hz 3 meter cable with decent protective braiding, and quite stiff whilst being pliable enough to get around corners, so will be easy to route.

Not the cheapest, but they are Aussie and actually test and use the cables they sell. For something that requires high bandwidth over long distances (unlike say, a 20m speaker cable) then I'd be getting it from here.

Also had good experiences with Selby Acoustics, both directly as well as on their eBay listings.

Linus tested a heap of HDMI cables in November last year using some fancy machine….many failed!

The link below has the related video and Excel spreadsheet of his findings.

  • I've never had a bad cable from https://www.selby.com.au/cables/hdmi-cables.html

  • Ive had no issues with these and good price for a 3 pack, and certified etc.
3 pack for not much more than some of the single 3m certified hdmi cables go for.

I personally use this fiber one, I don't have a TV with HDMI 2.1 or a game console/GPU with it either yet (only my AVR does it). But I needed a cable that could reach 20m (I could probably get away with 15m, but I wanted to be sure it would reach) from my desk to the TV/Home Theatre, and this was the cheapest fiber that could do it, it seems to have alot of positive reviews and does 4k 120hz (48Gbps/full bandwidth). FIBBR 8K HDMI Fiber Optic Cable, 48Gbps Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 Cable:

Prior to that I was using regular HDMI cables and always seemed to have trouble, especially at the distances I was running, now I'm getting a full 4K 60hz and the picture seems more vibrant (I know the cable shouldn't make a difference, but I'm guessing the cable quality does matter to a degree as Linus found alot of cables don't even meet the required specs they were rated for). Sure you could spend less, but they seems to fail more often or stop working sooner in my experience (distorted colors, blank picture or picture that cuts out, resolutions/frame rate lowers over time, ect…). Someone tested another fiber cable at a ridiculous distance (they asked for the longest cable the company could send) and also got really good results:
