Excludes NT, QLD, TAS should be in Title.
Only sold in States with licensing laws that allow supermarkets to sell alcohol.

Updated. I kind of thought everyone knew this though.

      • Some may not know about this. It's an arcane law.

    • Why can't a supermarket sell booze it they have the appropriate licence. Is there specific laws banning this in NT QLD and TAS?

      • +1

Yes, specific laws. It’s a bit annoying. I think it used to be like this in NSW too, at least I never remember buying alcohol in the supermarket when I lived there.

      • That's the issue - supermarkets in those areas can't obtain a licence.

But there's often a supermarket affiliated bottle shop outside the entrance. Those operate under the licence of a local pub (not the supermarket) - which were owned by the supermarket until recently! After protests about Woolies being a major pokies owner at those pubs, they divested their pubs into a separate company from their supermarket business…
        It's complicated!

Licensing Laws differ between States / Territories. Same with store hours hours, gambling, etc. They're State based restrictions.

Some regions within States have harsher restrictions governing sales in even bottle shops.

Pubs until about the 1960's couldn't sell beer after 6pm!!🍺 as an attempt to improve public morality and partly as a war austerity measure - introduced mainly during WW1

The temperance movement (began here in the mid-1830s) wanted moderation & later prohibition! That influenced State Licensing Laws.

Man, whatever happens to this in a can is rank. Beautiful on tap, though.

    • The Guinness Foreign Export Stout comes in bottles from Ireland, it is a bit pricey (when you can find it in stock) but it is a much better experience than the stuff we get in the cans.

Currently $3 a can at BWS for those in QLD

  • Randomly its one of the most popular beers in Malaysia

    • That is definitely random

      • Well its not very cold there…..
