Important PSA - Stop HODLing and Keep Your Eyes Open!

Ok so everyone I watched the following Youtube video and I recommend you do the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHZbgaAoFHI&t=834s

Basically there is an oversupply of very high end Nvidia GPUs in the market and sellers are going to need to offload them. I thought 'Can't hurt to keep an eye out, even though I'm an Ozbargainer and will probably HODL until the RTX 4070'.

I checked Ebay this afternoon and found an MSI RTX 3090 ti Gaming X Trio for $755.99!! With discount code it came down to $718.19!! Seller was called Ergos Direct https://www.ebay.com.au/str/ergos. They seem to have a pretty good reputation. The card is no longer on their Ebay store or website as far as I can see. I have had a confirmation email from the store. Probably auto generated.

Will keep you all updated in case this is a serious pricing error and they don't honour it, but it can't hurt to keep your eyes peeled for similar deals. It makes sense why this might be happening if you watch the video above.

Good luck!!

Update 13/7/2022: No shipping number yet. Estimated delivery July 21 at the latest. No communication from seller. I'll wait until 21/7 before contacting them.

Update 2: Checked the UPC. UPC is for a RTX 3060. Contacted the seller to cancel if item is actually RTX 3060.

Update 14/7: Seller confirmed item is actually RTX 3060. Cancelled and processed refund. Ah well. Back to HODLing!

IF this arrives as expected, you’ll need to do a lot of stress testing to ensure the card hasn’t been flogged to within an inch of its life already.

Hmm, no such sold RTX 3090 Ti unit sold at that price… https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=rtx+3090+t…

      • Amazing deal if you get it. Good luck!

Definitely misprice though and isn't market changes like your post goes on about.

        • You're probably right. I'll let you all know either way.

    • Question - how do you stress test to find out if it's faulty?

      • +3

        1) Visual inspection - Make sure the ports all works and aren't damaged, unscrew the cooler and check there's no modifications, jumper cables added, no burnt out resistors or mosfets or other chips. Check the thermal compound is still moist and uniform (or better yet replace it completely).

        2) Stress test - Plug in the GPU to computer and boot up. Install latest drivers and check basic things like display settings and resolution is as expected. Then check idle temps & frequencies are within spec. Once all ok for half an hour basic use, try a stress test like Cinebench benchmark running several runs to make sure no crashes while monitoring temps and checking the output scores are in line with expectations for the unit.

        • Amazing, thank you!

Yeah will HODL for RTX 4070 then wait a bit still price stabilizes.

  • Looks like the seller only sells new.
What condition was the 3090 Ti you bought listed at?
If new then 100% a price error

  • Zero chance of you receiving a working card.

  • Weird that the listing has like four business names.
    Pesto
    idirect
    Ergos Direct
    Factory Direct

But all other products listed by them seem to make sense pricewise. A 3090 ti for sub $800 is an error, not a stock clearing. With video cards, I've never seen a company clear stock of high end video cards for less than half cost price (Speculation).

    • The multiple business names is odd. Comes up as idirect in my emails. If it arrives as a RTX 3090 ti keychain I'll let you know.

  • you should be extremely careful buying deals that look too good to be true, a 3090 ti is a great mining gpu to buy but not if it is too cheap

a ton of scammers come out especially when the economy gets bad

like i have 100% confidence a 3090 ti for 700 is a scam or misprice

    • Never had trouble getting a refund via ebay before. I expect a cancellation email on Monday. Whatever happens I'll post it here. Might give people a few lulz.

      • as long as you can get a refund then no problems…

that crypto shitshow was something, even i bought in to the hype, didn't expect them to pull a joke that big and yet here we are

the drop was fast and steep, a lot of people are underwater imo and might take years to capitulate…

        • Sorry mate. Hope you didn't lose out too badly.

          • @locknuts: i did ok protected myself but holy shit feel bad for the people that go hurt

proper dirty what they did, full on just scams everywhere

  • Very interesting. The same item briefly flashed up as a deal last night on Kogan Marketplace being fulfilled by Trinity Connect before being taken down for insufficient quantity.
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/trinity-connect-msi-geforce-rtx…
From my research online, not a very well known or respected company, fully expect the refund to be processed but interested to see how your eBay purchase goes.

    • I saw that. It got me excited that my purchase might be real. We'll see.

      • They were meant to ship the card yesterday, so I sent a follow up message to the company, Trinity Connect, quick reply of:
"as advised by our warehouse, this stock was actually returned faulty item and we accidently listed wrongly. this has been cancelled and refunded."
So, no go, not surprised, interested to see if they would have ever processed the refund if I hadn't asked.

  • Hrm it does seem like there's been some 3060 Tis selling for ~$200 less than brand new. The question is whether there's something wrong with them for that price, but that could be just all that they're going for right now. https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_fsrp=1&rt=nc&_from=R40&_…

The one I bought was brand new. Interesting to see a mid range card like the 3060 ti going that low.

      • any update on the order?

        • No shipping number yet. Estimated delivery July 21 at the latest. No communication from seller. I'll wait until 21/7 before contacting them.

          • @locknuts: Strange they have not cancelled. The link above changed from a 3090ti to a 3060 a day or so after your post now I can't find it at all

Hopefully they don't ship you a 3060 and make you play games for a refund

            • @PensionerXXL: Description's pretty clear in my emails and Ebay account. They could try I suppose.

              • @locknuts: So it was a 3060? That's fd they can change the sale conditions after accepting order?!

                • @PensionerXXL: I told them to cancel the order after they confirmed it is actually a 3060. I knew they would put up a fight if I insisted on forcing them to lose maybe $800.

  • ebay is full of these scams

usually they have a website where you can buy direct, have a low feedback etc

    report them and move on
