Hey rep, could you put together a content creators solution?

I will recommend the crap out of it if you have something decent at a reasonable price.

If you need preferred specs, happy to assist.

EDIT; something along the lines of i7/i9/5900/5950, 3080, 16/32GB, 1TB+ SSD/NVME would be a great budget system.

    • +57

How is that a budget system?

      • xD

      • +17

        I mean, it's A budget….

      • Second hand parts of course

      • -5

It should come in at $3K ish?

I just paid almost three times that for, admittedly, a much more powerful solution and I'm asked constantly for recommendations to cheaper but still powerful enough alternatives.

Running the usual Premiere Pro, DaVinci NLE's for 4K assets, these system should suffice and whilst gaming systems are valid solutions, a media creation system configured specifically is always better.

I find a single 1TB internal drive to be enough for the current project which is offloaded to an external drive once the job is complete.

        • +1

$3k would be considered a high end PC. The parts you listed are all high end too. Also $9k for a PC seems like some absurdity that 99.99% of people would never have. A budget rig would be anywhere from $500 to $1500-ish.

          • @Yuri Lowell: Well it depends on the circles you're in, I'm the budget guy in my circles, the rest have $15-20K machines.

Even years ago a top end Apple machine for video editing was $10K before any options, software etc.

$3K ish for a system with similar specs to what I described is doable, I called centrecom and it's definitely doable.

I've opted for a 4500 system that will see through the next 3 years of work.

    • +2

You also need to include 2x 8TB HDDs for storage like I did with my recent build for video editing

    • +6

They don’t do top-spec systems because they don’t sell well. Most people wanting top tier systems build their own or have a very specific requirement and get a custom built system, they also don’t need to worry about a ‘budget’ if they are aiming at i9s with 3080/3090s, 1000w PSUs, 360mm AIOs, gen 4.0 NVME drives etc. Those buyers are a very small market for companies like this, when most buyers will be families or gamers wanting a simple systems for games.

    • +16

This generation's i3 is faster than last gen's i5 and the 3600. It is sufficient for most people.

      • +4

well dont tell me that - now I feel like my 3600 is a giant pile of garbage :(

        • +8

Nah, it's still good. Just that this generation has gotten alot better.

          Result of competition baby.

        • +3

jokes aside - but funny people actually think in this way. but a quick check against benchmarks and a 3600 runs everything perfectly in 2022. heck, even my 1600af still runs everything perfectly

          • +1

@Doomedgrind: My 2600 (basically 1600AF) still eats up everything I throw at it too. Although I don't play at 1080p anymore so it can bottleneck a mid range GPU at that resolution quite easily.

    • +2

I mean it's really just a cheaper option, I'm sure most people would pick the i5 upgrade

      • -5

So they can pick it, the options are there in the link.

        • +3

          That was the point :)

    • +5

Tell me you haven't researched current gen cpu without telling me you haven't researched current gen CPUs

    • I3 10TH GEN and above are good as!!!

  • +4

Yeah i think the i3 is PLENTY given it's cost

    • +3

It's because most people are blinded by simple things like R5 or R7 gives an extra 10 frames @170fps over 160fps that an I3 can drive with say a 3060 ti… lol…but you'll never notice those 1 or 10 extra fps…game dependent

    • what the hell, that's crazy

  • -1

Will this work for Warzone? Still on the hunt for the right budget option..

    • +3

Had to check what Warzone was for a sec, but yes, this system will run ALL modern games absolute min 1080p medium 60fps+ but more likely at 1440p high - game dependent

      • Yeah will run warzone fine and if you have a 1440p panel can reduce render resolution a bit and get the FPS you want without affecting quality too much (depends on panel, you might not need to if you want 60 fps at 1440p but if you want 120 fps then you'd have to do this I feel).

        *Experience based on Aorus Elite 3060ti / i5 11400 & 2x8gb dual channel.

Runs warzone stable @120fps @1440p (can be slightly higher but I have my monitor locked at 120hz) while streaming on Twitch using OBS which I have on second screen (at 90% render resolution).
        Hope that helps :)

  • +7

Option without a hideous case please

  • +1

That's not bad - my daughter paid that price for just a 3060TI not even a year ago :(

    • +2

And she's used it for a yr while others have been deprived of that experience for HODLing.
I know I over paid for my setup back in Sep last year but I use is 6 days a week and gets hours of usage out of it each day. Personally I find that more satisfying than saving a bit of $$$ over 10 months.
Each to their own (more Ozbargainers on the HODLing bandwagon which is also totally fine!)

      • Don't get me wrong - she's had a lot of use out of it but considering she earns very little I was a bit sad she had to stump up so much so she could complete her build

  • +7

Now this is a deal I can get behind, similar to my mortgage repayments 😔

  • +2

I know these seem cheap, but if you can build yourself i would recommend it, had couple components fail in one of these prebuilts, the motherboard and PSU are pretty low quality, PSU has failed also the CPU fried somehow. To be fair i replaced the parts without contacting for warranty. They may have replaced them i dunno.

    • +2

Yeah, the PSU absolutely blew up itself and the mobo in my old cheapie rx 580 box, but that was out of warranty by a few months and I couldn't be bothered, but if it was in warranty? Iunno, I'd ship it back.

    • I have had three TF systems.

One dodgy PSU (mechanical - the power socket was out of shape and the power cord rocked up and down in it) and one 40GB SSD died within a year.

TF replaced both promptly, one with them paying return postage and other not because their email implied it was up to me to pay for postage and I didn’t know to ask (but I did for the second item).

    • +1

Fear not, the MSI are decent power supplies. A lot better than gigabyte and OEM's.

      • Agreed.

        • Dunno…have had an MSI 860 Watt burn out…YMMV!

  • Nice to see prices keep dropping …

  • Bought. Been waiting and waiting. Time to pull the pin.

TF should do some sort of points system; the more PCs you buy you get a discount :D

  • I feel like I'm old… Or I've never based lined specs correctly. Since when is an i3 capable of anything more than a browser and school work?

    Serious question.

    • +1

I thought the same. And googled the difference in fps you’d get in games with this compared to the i5.

It was marginal at best, around 5-15 frames more. So I just got the i3 and will upgrade it when prices go lower. As TV want $119 to go up to the i5 where as the actual price difference if bought on your own is approx. $80 without looking for a bargain.

  • Newb here.
My son plays fortnite, fifa, car games mainly. On console atm.
Will this run them well? Should I consider any upgrades for them to run smoothly? What about monitor?

    • Will run all those more than well.

Upgrade the mobo just in case you want to add more hard drives or ram.

Monitor is also up to you. Can get full hd and be sweet or can go 2k but pricier.

Personally Full HD is enough for a kid who doesn’t care / know the
Difference about all the different types of monitors. Just make sure it’s 144hz or more with 1ms response time

      • Legend thanks for the response

  • Getting an error that the code has expired or reached its usage limit?

    • Code is still active, maybe try a different browser?

  • +1

For anyone wanna build your own system, below are the lowest price I can find according to OZbargain.

    Intel Core i3 12100F 4 Core LGA 1700 4.30 GHz CPU Processor $149
    Asrock Radeon RX 6600 Challenger D 8GB Graphics Card $299 or 6600 XT $399
    Asus Prime H610M-A LGA 1700 D4 mATX Motherboard $129
    16GB 3200Mhz RAM $76.99
    Crucial P2 500GB PCIe M.2 SSD $69
    Gigabyte P650B 650W 80+ Bronze Power Supply $65
MSI MAG Forge 100R RGB Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Case $72

    Total $859.99 ~ $959.99

    • Do amd and nvidia graphics still looks slightly different ? I remember back in the early 2000s they did

      • -1

Some people say that AMD has better image quality and colours. But, honestly I can't tell a difference and I use both AMD (6700 XT) and Nvidia (laptop 3060). AMD does have lower driver overhead though so its easier on the CPU but you would only notice that running a very old or low end CPU.

  • Got mine delivered yesterday.

FYI; comes with windows 11 pre-installed. I installed windows 10 on another hard drive and my tp-link archer c64 could not give the pc an ip address. I usually can fix this; I tried so many things but couldn’t get it to work so just went back to windows 11.

Otherwise everything running smoothly so far. Tidy inside the case; got the card shipped separately. Got PNY branded Card, Kingston m2 drive.
