"Mobile Extras" Phone Insurance from JB Hi-Fi

Does anyone have any experience with JB Hi-Fi's "Mobile Extras" phone insurance?
I just purchased it for $99 with S22 Ultra. $249 for a swap to a brand new device seems like a bargain! Even a little too good as I'm 100% going to have cracked screen in a few months time ;)

  • I'm 100% going to have cracked screen in a few months time

I hope as a true OzBargainer you’d pay the $45 screen replacement not the $249 device repayment.

    • $45 for a screen replacement?
A true OzBargainer will use it cracked and if your fingers get cut, $2 home brand plastic strips will do the trick.

  • Screen replacement would likely involve sending the phone to Eastern states (and I'm in WA so these days it's at least couple of days each way), plus then waiting for them to actually replace it - could easily take two weeks. So I think getting replacement brand new phone would be faster.
Also if a new flagship is out by then, I could take brand new phone and sell it - likely better value than the second-hand.

  • I guess it all depends on use. But I've really never broken a phone within 12 months of purchase so i don't think I'd ever use it. Then you're paying $348 for a new phone ($99+$249), I'd rather keep the money for a Samsung S24 or whichever in a few years time after that.
Then again this might be useful for those who do destroy their phone in 12 months time? and I'm guessing want a shiny new one at that point. Most of the time these trade in better too I guess as well?

    Issued by Square Trade

Also worth checking them out too, I know someone who did something similar with Samsung during purchase. And Samsung refused to help at all as even though they're the seller they essentially fob you off to the actual issuer. Ended up emailing the CEO of Samsung (obvs he didn't reply himself) but Samsung finally said they'd get involved then and fixed the issue. So just a heads up that a lot of these companies use third parties.

    • I actually just broke a screen on my S21 Ultra just a bit over a week ago and got it swapped for a refurbished phone using the Samsung Care+. The first refurbished phone was in a terrible condition - screen was replaced and it wasn't aligned with the body of the phone - there was a small void on the side meaning that it wasn't even waterproof! Additionally the charging only worked 50/50. I called them up and complained and they sent me another replacement which is in a close to new condition.

I salary package my phone, so I get a brand new flagship every year and even make money on it by selling the previous phone

  • if you regularly crack screen, get tempered glass screen protectors and replace as necessary.
