On sale from TomTop's AU warehouse is a Smart Xiaomi Rice Cooker. The cooker has wifi connectivity so you can pair it with the Mi Home app for control. There's a lot of presets in the app, like if you're making rice, porridge, congee, instant noodles or the type of rice you're using, as well as being able keep it warm for a period of time. You can set the start time and get notified when it's complete.

Alternatively there are buttons on the front of the rice cooker and a display if you don't want to use the app. It has a 1.6L capacity and 400W rated power so it's the smaller brother of the Xiaomi IH 3L Smart Electric Rice Cooker.

I would not recommend XiaoMi rice cooker. Yes, it is good at mobile, but definitely not in rice cooker. I will prefer traditional big band, Panasonic, Tiger, Zojirushi. You don't want to find the app on your phone and click click click. So annoying.

    • +2

Then don't use the app? It has buttons. Perhaps not as advanced as some bigger cookers?

      • +4

when you choose different rice, and different cooking functions, it uses apps.

        • So for about $80 there are others in the brands you listed that will have the same functions with buttons? I'm no expert on rice cookers lol.

          • @Clear: No, I can't. But to an expected 10 life span appliance I will spend more money and get a good quality one.

            • +5

@paddywide: I wish the big boy rice cooker brands hired better designers though, most of the expensive cookers are ugly as sin.

I own a Xiaomi rice cooker. I'm very happy with the result. I consider myself fuzzy when it comes to my rice. Plus it is very easy to clean. It is a bit silly to discount Xiaomi's non phone products and categorized them to be sub-standard. It is great product and superb value at this price IMO.

      • +4

        I don't like fuzzy rice.

        • +1

Gave you a like because other people didn't get the joke.

      • Does it come with a water container for the water that collects.

Can you take off the top to clean the rice

        • +1

Yes and yes. So easy to remove and clean. Please check out reviews on Youtube to see for yourself.

    • Anko?

      • My one short circuited and cut the power for half the house - would not recommend

    • I agree. A rice cooker shouldn't need so much electronics. I suppose it connects to the cloud over WiFi, which is a component destined to fail before the cooking system. My Panasonic is 11yo and is still running strong.

      • +4

You don't need to connect it to wifi if you don't want to… it works perfectly fine without wifi.

    • +1

      I disagree.
I love my Xiaomi Mijia Rice Cooker, the rice is much better than Midea, Panasonic, Breville and is almost as good as Tiger, Zojirushi, but a lot cheaper.

    • What are you on lol? It does the job what more do you want from a $80 rice cooker?

The rice tastes decent. I’ve been able to cook soup, chicken and other dishes using the cooker

    • And send your personal data back to the manufacturer.

Google Translate has the camera option. Run it through once and you're good :)

      • +2

probably need to run it every time you want cook xD
If the button on english, it probably a good deal.

        • +3

I think you'd remember what they are after the first translation.

      • +1

Google Translate has the camera option. Run it through once and you're good :)

…or you could just look at (or even print) the last photo in the listing ;-)

probably need to run it every time you want cook xD
If the button on english, it probably a good deal.

I agree, I would still find it easier for and others to use if it had English to begin with…

This xiaomi one works a lot better steam rice than the Panasonic we had before.

  • +2

I have the 3L model and I don't like it. My main problem with it is that it takes too long to cook rice. Even the fastest setting takes 40 mins to cook two cups of rice. My previous Midea branded one had a "fast-cook" option which could cook rice within 20 mins. A lot of times I have cooked 3 dishes, washed all the plates and the rice is still cooking. I would recommend sticking to one of the big brands Midea, Panasonic, Tiger, Zojirushi.

    • +2

I'd take it off your hand mate. I have been waiting ages for a deal of the 3L version :/

    • +2

I have been waiting for 3L in a long time as well.
It takes a long time to cook, but it is worth the wait.
Got this smaller one as backup.

    • +4

The 3L model is induction and is designed to cook slowly for better cooked rice.
This 1.6L model is electric coil which cooks much faster, 20 to 30mins.

You have the wrong tool for your cooking style…

      • I should have waited for the 3L one :-(
Hope the rice from the 1.6L one taste as good…

    • The newer Panasonic is also induction which also takes the same amount of time to cook as your current 3L Xiaomi….

    • +1

Interesting. I have the 3L version it says 40 but then it gets done within 20-25. Rice tastes great!

  • After adding AU address, price comes up as AU$ 77.21

  • +4

I use a 35 year old pan, add rice, add twice that weight/volume in water, come back 5min later.

It's a smart pan, it's saved me $80 and bench space.

  • Wifi/app connection sounds pretty useless for a rice cooker. If the rice cooker had a water supply and a rice hopper attached???… then the wifi would be great otherwise why would you setup a rice cooker with water and rice, leave the scene and goto your app and start programming the thing?

Wouldn’t you just press the correct setting for rice, congee, soup etc at the time you setup your cooking?

A timer function on the rice cooker would be the most useful feature, keeping it simple.

    • It does everything you just said after wifi

      • Was expecting it to do more for the price.

        • I didn't list everything

          • @Clear: Guess you didn’t make it clear

            • +3

@tonsta: Not my job do research for other people. I put a lot more in than other posters that's for sure.

  • was going to buy this - but looks like it hasnt got a steaming basket to steam veggies at the same time as cooking rice

  • If most features and different cooking functions can only be accessed via the app, what happens when they abandon the app, or release a new app that doesn't support the rice cooker? And then if Google update their OS and the old app no longer works in new OS…

    • +1

It's Xiaomi….. they'd be ditching their entire ecosystem of phones, tablets and hundreds of other products. That's like saying Apple is going to close shop.

      • Good way to force people to buy a new rice cooker after a few years

        • +1

It's been 2 years and this still works as does the one released over 6 years ago.

  • Hi I would like to know the none stick coat inside the bowl are they as good as the big brand?

    • Same coating, cancer rates would be on par.
