  • Whats the difference between active and passive noise cancellation? Performance wise that is

    • Passive Noise Cancellation uses well designed ear cups to seal out unwanted noise. This is used for both over-ear headphones and in-ear earphones where the earbud itself will keep surrounding noise out. Active Noise Cancellation uses microphones and speakers to reduce background and surrounding noises.

      • which type is better for long conference talking outside?

        • Passive will use less power, if it is as effective as active then it is a better choice, but that isn't a given.

        • If it’s a good one, the ANC type will also block out background noise for the people you are speaking to, which can be handy.

    • Passive noise cancellation tries to use the design and materials to reduce the noise around. Does not use any of the circuitry to generate a signal to suppress the noise.

      • Thank you. Does it noticeably diff between the two performance wise (in its ability to cancel noise)?

        • +1

If the fit in your ear is good, seal is good and the design is good then passive NC is very effective. Ultimately, it can only isolate or attenuate so much ambient noise, so ANC can work to do the rest.

        • +1

Imo good seal on an in-ear is good enough for morning commutes on the trian. ANC will block out more than what passive can do, but you may feel a slight pressure on your head as ANC does it's thing and cancels the noise out.

FWIW I actually use the ambient mode on my buds more than the ANC. Nothing like having superhuman hearing and listening in on peoples convo's

  • Sound is tinny in my experience. Better pay a little more and get Sony WF1000XM3, night and day. Even my Galaxy Buds sound better.

    • These actually sound spectacular. Way better than Wf1000Xm3

    • Sony's XM line is a bass bloated mess, I really don't get the hype over them.

  • $199 at HN. +1

  • Black also. They just look like they protude a little too much for my liking. Nothing like Bose/Sony do, but I hate catching them on things.

  • Check the bad reviews on Amazon before regretting the purchase.

    • What's wrong with them? Heard some good reviews on them over on Youtube?

    • Lol. If u only focus on bad Amazon reviews, you'll never buy anything

      https://www.scarbir.com/tws/sennheiser-cx-review

Here's a decent review to help decide whether the device has the features you might want / need in a pair of in-ears.

It's not someone's random bad experience, that might be a one off

      • Sennheiser offers them directly from them for $115 free delivery. I wonder if anyone has a voucher code. If it’s only a 10% off voucher code it’s cheaper than amazon. They are also on eBay sold by sennheiser for $115 minus AFTERPAY10 code for $105 delivered via Ebay plus…

        • +1

Definitely worth looking around for a better deal.

I got them on 30th June off Telstra rewards store. It was 40k points plus $30 delivered but the offer ended that day.

          • @nismo: I’m surprised Amazon is not offering a better deal! Well I wait till prime day. They might offer a small amount in a lightning deal for under $100.
