Which Budget Wireless Outdoor Security Camera?

Any recommendations? I'm after as cheap as possible but with good reviews and stand up the harsh conditions of outside. Prefer wireless with long lasting battery.

    How cheap is cheap

I can recommend Imou looc if you can get usb power to it and if you can get it at $40 ish or less

If you literally want wireless the Xiaomi IMILAB EC2 is prob best bet for cheap. Can be sometimes had for about $100 for a 2 cam kit. Battery life varies depending on how much traffic you get. Also consider because it’s usually in low power mode many times by the time it trips and starts recording the trespasser is already long gone.

    • I was thinking around $50 so that is good. I have outdoor power but it's like 10 metres away, would prefer wired if I can do it. Just can't hide the cable.

  • The Blink camera is good but after a few years the PIR dies after being out in the weather and you have to bin it. It has the best wake up time - eg compared to Eufy which is like a teenager waking up.

  • If you don't want to throw it away soon after, spend the money and get something from Reolink - don't need a fancy model - but it works v well

I use the Reolink Argus Eco with Solar Panel. Not on sale at the moment on Amazon but the Reolink Argus 2E is on sale for $129.99 with $16 off. The link is https://www.amazon.com.au/Security-Wireless-Detection-Stunni…

They're outdoor proof and can withstand rain and sun. The solar panel keeps the batteries charged so the cameras keep chugging along even during cloudy days. Reolink also includes free cloud recording but you need to renew each month to keep it active. One of my Reolink outdoor cameras got water into it for some reason (but none of the others did). Reolink sent me a replacement right away and only asked that I post them the damaged camera after I had received the replacement. Great customer service.

2 way talking, night vision, micro SD local storage, motion detection, WiFi, battery built in, cloud recording for free. With cloud recording it's 1 camera per account as you have to pay to add more than 1 camera. Otherwise create a new account for each camera but less convenient.

If you don't need the solar panel then you can buy the stand alone camera $93.99 with $6 off. Link https://www.amazon.com.au/Reolink-Security-Wireless-Recharge…

Unlike Eufy and the like you don't need a hub. Each camera is self contained and they can all be viewed and controlled on the Reolink app plus website. I'm a happy customer and I've got them monitoring the perimeter of the house.

    • +1 for Reolink.
Maybe not as cheap as some of the others mentioned but works brilliantly.
I've set up 3 around my place and 3 around my grandparents to keep an eye on their place. Both sets are made up of 2 x Wi-Fi cameras with battery + solar panels and 1 x Wi-Fi camera with wired power (cable into the roof and down into a power point)

Easy to install, cameras work without fail, solar panel charges the batteries well (batteries are always at 100%), app is easy to use and notifications come through straight away. as Eatslikeacat mentioned has 2 way talk but I find mine has a bit of a delay on it. Not an issue as I never use that feature.

  • Wyze (v2/v3) are exceptionally good for their price

  • I got this a month ago & I love it.

If you want it 10 metres away it gets its power by 2 thin wires (think + & - cable when wiring up a car stereo). Just get some from Jaycar or wherever; cut & splice (take note of the polarity of the wires so you don't wire + to -). You can solder to do a pro job or just strip & twist & use electrical tape. Nitto was the best, now it is elec tape by 3M. I would not bury it unless you can keep it dry (think long tube that won't leak).

I buried a phone line once after I made an extension for it, and everynow and then the phone would give one ring, but no-one was there, it was due to the moisture got in the joints & shorted out (not mobile phones kiddies, phones that you had to plug in the wall & you had to pay Helstra heaps of money for terrible service. That is why Rudd started the NBN & The Rabbit got the bloke who knew all about the internet because he owned a dial-up company, to build the nbn, then knobble the nbn because they were going to lose the election, but they won it.

So they lied to all the people in Oz that they were going to build it faster & build it cheaper than the over-priced (according to them what bullshit, show me the costings) Labor's Fibre to Everywhere. And the idiots, I mean, people of Oz believed them, not once, but twice. What do you call people that fall for the same trick twice? Idiots. Then they complain that their internet is slow & drops out all the time & the only people that have good internet are the rich people/Libs. when I did Oz politics I learnt that the Libs DNA as you will is, "the rich stay rich & the poor stay poor" remember that next election /rant)

  • Wireless is often pointless as you still need to run a power wire. Depends of course on your situation

  • What did you end up getting?

I was looking at the Anran S02, which comes with pan (no tilt), large battery and solar panel for $85 on sale that ended yesterday.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/154592407047

It looks reasonable for the price and is rated well on Amazon.com/eBay and even has a similar product reviewed on YT. Except the one I linked is only 3MP and has no auto tracking.

    • Didn't get anything. Project on hold.
