Qantas from SYD or MEL to New York (JFK) $1499 and to Dallas Fort Worth $1399 RETURN

170

Deals to Dallas and New York in Economy are for departure dates 3 August to 13 September 2012, 1 to 28 November 2012 and 1 February to 21 March 2013.
Deals end 11.59pm (AEST) 4 June 2012, unless sold out prior.

I came across this Qantas deal and I think these prices are quite good.

EDIT: As suggested by Natt, you may be able to find lower prices on expedia.ie. But some people may feel safer about booking directly with Qantas.

As far as I can see the prices you mention on expedia.ie are ONE WAY, whilst the prices in the deal are RETURN.
I did random check and the fares I got on expedia.ie were approx. 800 euros each way.
If you found better prices - great.

Just did quick search on expedia.ie for SYD to JFK 5/11/2012 return 19/11/2012 for 807 euro ($1048 aud).

I just did a quick return fare search for two random dates in the period (15 Aug - 25 Aug 2012) and came up with:

    • expedia.ie = $1036
    • lastminute.ie = $1056
    • ebookers.ie = $1066
    • bravofly.com = $1480

Admittedly that last one is so close to the Qantas price, it may be easier for some people to deal direct with Qantas, but it shows there are better deals out there.

    • so ie, deal with ie

This deal is for airfares not time travel tickets.

It won't be surprising that Qantas wants the Ozzies to pay more.
We all know that our prices for nearly everything (electronics, clothing, kitchen ware, food, etc.) are higher than elsewhere…
I still can't comprehend why in Australia, with its warm climate all year around, tomatoes, cucumbers and capsicums, for instance, currently cost $8 in the supermarkets, whilst in Northern Europe even in winter they cost about $2- $3.
But still… I would rather live in Australia than in Europe.

I would rather live in Australia than in Europe.

Except that we aren't allowed to enter Eurovision… :(

Another reason to raise children in the lucky country.

Start a business and you'll soon learn why stuff costs so much more money in Australia. Take a look at min. wages across the globe and compare to AU.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_minimum_wages_by_countr…

I'm getting to the point where I am asking myself if it is even worth staying in business in Australia and perhaps I should just up and go somewhere else.

While we have a warm climate we also suffer from drought and flooding which hurts the supply chain.

      Read this article:

      http://www.smh.com.au/national/canned-why-local-tomatoes-cop…

I skimmed through it but you might find a few answers.

The article you are referring to is about canned tomatoes. It doesn't answer any questions and actually raises even more. And the climate thing you mention has nothing to do with the issues. All countries have their problems with the climate. And don't tell me that Northern European climate is better for growing fruits and vegetables.
And needless to say that high prices on clothing, electronics, etc. (incl. downloadable software!) that come to Australia from the same producers as to all other countries have nothing to do with the climate or min. wages. It's just we are being overcharged for the privilege to live in this country.

  • I have a flight booking soon. Is there any issue with booking via Expedia Ireland? Just supply my passport number and thats it?

    • See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70589
Many people have booked without any issues.

    • I use my cc for travel insurance. Make sure you if you do the same, you check the T&C's for what purchases qualify to be covered. Some might exclude trips that originate from Oz but are bought overseas, etc.

  • It's $1499 from Melbourne as well to New York - http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/international-fligh…

    • Got the email and same prices from Brissy

  • Deleted.

  • Adioso seems to do a good job with searches. Is there any website that does a worldwide search to find these anomolies?

  • I booked yesterday on expedia.ie for Sydney to New York with Qantas for 915 euros($1134AUD) for 2/8/rtn 1/9. What a fabulous saving of over $500 compared to booking directly with Qantas! Thanks to Natt for originally getting me onto this great deal.
