Speeding Infringement Notice - Maroondah Highway [VIC]

Hi All,

Looking for some advice please.

Recently received infringement notice of $227.00 for over speeding on Maroondah Highway. The speed limit was 60kmph and the camera detected my car speed to be 68kmph.

I usually follow speed limits and drive within the limit. Somehow I missed seeing the road limit this time as it was very dark and drizzling. Should I appeal for an internal review? Are there any chances it will be waived? Please help me if anyone was in the same situation.

Thanks in advance.

You get one free warning every two years.

Appeal the fine saying you've learnt your lesson etc, and they should drop it to a warning from infringement

It's all stated on the Victoria Compliance or whatever it's called website

    • Appeal the fine saying you've learnt your lesson etc

      This.

      • Thanks

damn you victorians got it good

have a look at WA speeding fines, now they get it good!

It is also reflected in the way they drive too! Always over the speed limit.

    • nsw is like 1 every 10 years?

Somehow I missed seeing the road limit this time as it was very dark and drizzling.

Probably not the excuse I would use as justification for speeding.

Windscreen has too many cracks to see out of, and I'm not tall enough to see over the dash.

@bdl: had to go faster due to lack of time and abundant tasks at hand to get out of the awful conditions

@DashCam AKA Rolts: …if only they'd not had those three extra pints at the pub, they could have been home before the storm hit. I blame the pub for the slow bar service.

I may have missed it when I was on the phone.

          • @Baysew: Older person, had to speed so I wouldn't forget where I was going before I got there.

    • The sign would have been lit up by the headlights unless OP was driving with them off.

  • +1

    very dark and drizzling

better drive faster? what was the speed before the sign?

    • I think it was 70kmph.

      • +1

Make sure you put in the appeal letter that you think the speed was 70 and it will get rejected as it shows you do not know what the speed limit was before you got caught.

I would suggest setting your mobile up for video recording and drive the highway you did on the night and again at night so you can get what the speed actually was and if the speed signs are difficult to see at night.

You can supply he video on a USB stick if it helps your appeal.

  • You have to admit you were speeding to get a waiver. You'll get off if your record is as clean as you suggest.

Where on Maroondah Hwy if you don't mind me asking?

  • Was it a fixed camera or a mobile? What part of the hwy? Asking cause I use Maroondah Highway to/from work. There's a nasty camera in Blackburn near the school always flashing away, and Im never sure if its a permanent 40km zone or changes on the times based on school etc…

As for the appeal, it's most important that you admit fault, excuses are going to be meaningless, you need to come crawling with your tail between you legs.

    • I hate that camera. I am sure that section of the road used to be 70km/hr as well, so it is hard to travel at 60km/hr if traffic is flowing well.

… it is hard to travel at 60km/hr if traffic is flowing well…

It isn't hard to do. You just need to concentrate on driving.

Which part of Maroondah Highway? Its a long road.

I usually follow speed limits and drive within the limit.

Be careful with saying you usually you do. As usually means you mostly do something but not all the time. Which means this was clearly one of those sometimes you don't times.

Somehow I missed seeing the road limit this time as it was very dark and drizzling. Should I appeal for an internal review?

Not seeing a road sign, or knowing the road rules is not a reason to be committing the offence in the eyes of the law.

If you have a clean driving record for the last 2 years and as this was under 10kmh, you can ask for an official warning instead. Lots of examples out there for what needs to be put in the letter.

Unlike the Chandler Highway which is the (apparently) shortest highway in the world at 1.4km

Just pay the fine - Dan needs all the money he can get

    • +1

How dare you say Dan is anything but filthy rich? He is giving each of us free $250 for operating an electricity account.

  • Wow $227 for 8 ks over?

    You guys get shafted!

    • +4

$227 is the old price, the fine from 1 July is $231. OP beat the price rise and saved $4. (Front page deal right there)

      Fine amounts & demerit points

      • +1

the extra 8kmph will help outrun ANY price rise

Trying to cut off a P plater with no insurance on the merge lane to the motorway ;)

  • If you drive at 70, camera catches 68. And the police alleges 65 considering device tolerance.

    I had 2 appealed :

1 : New car, was getting used to the cruise control and accidentally set it high. WAIVED OFF because its first time

2 : about 2 years later, 2 Trucks sandwiched me and for safety reasons, i had to speed to get out of the truck's blind spot. Its visible in infringement photo that one if them was very close to the line.

I PAID second time because it didn't get waived off before due date. However they reviewed case and REFUNDED me after a 2 months.

Tip : Tell them that you never speed and never got a ticket for the last X years, tell them the truth that it was 70 to 60 drop and it was a mistake and assure that it wont happen again.

Just tell the truth and it will be waived off. They see worses offence everyday and wouldnt mind downgrading it as a warning.
