Anyone Know What This Subaru Part Is?

What is this question.

Anyone know what this part is of a Subaru (the damaged part)?
Got texted by a seller this part needs fixing but never told me what it is.

clutch fork or throw out bearing?

    .

    • Plot twist - seller is actually referring to the input shaft…

  • It's a "whatsit", commonly confused with a "whosit"

  • Better buy a new car.

Its not a cheap quick fix if that's what your hoping for unless you can DIY - but your question suggests you won't be fixing it yourself.

If you have to ask the question i don't think the job is for you.
Also the seller is probably selling it because it's not financially viable to keep and fix.

As MS paint said, you'll need to DIY it, and if you don't know the parts i'd steer clear.

Looks like you could use a new Johnson rod there.

  • Looks like someone didn't install the clutch properly or the bearing seized and damaged the fork. TBH if you know what you are doing it looks like a pretty straightforward repair but since it exploded there may be hidden damage.

    1. It’ll have to be a really cheap price because the gearbox has been taken out.
    2. If you have to ask, you probably will be paying a mechanic which will negate any savings.

But as above it’s part of the clutch fork/bearing.

I’ve pulled the gearbox out of an old forester. It’s not particularly hard to do, but at the same time if you haven’t played spanners on cars much it’s a pretty big task.

Failed clutch release bearing, common Subaru issue. Not sure why you would be buying a car that has the gearbox removed, when you don't know what part has failed.

  • Looks like a worn Johnson Rod.

    • Stop it unless you are allready blind.

  • It's a close up of a problem, but it could be in two spots. Include an image showing where it is.
