Audible Membership - 2 Months for $0.99 ($16.45/Month Thereafter) - Returning Customers @ Audible AU

1500

I received this in multiple emails, seems to be a decent deal for returning customers.

I also believe this isn't targeted as I was able to activate this offer on my account that just had its subscription end today, despite the email being sent to my other account. Furthermore, I created a new account to check again and was also able to access the same offer using the link sent in the original email. However, please don't take my word for it.

Worked for me and I only recently ended my sub about 2 months ago.

  • Got 3 months via email

After the first couple of months (credits) where I picked up a few non fiction books I really struggled to find anything I wanted.

This is a great deal but don't think I'll find anything much I'll want, even for 99c.

    • Is it the books themselves or the audiobooks you are struggling to find?

I don't dabble much in non-fiction but I'm sure you could find great recommendations online. Sometimes when I need inspiration I walk through book shops and write down books that seem interesting and then buy the audiobook version when I get home.

      • Both. Pretty small catalogue (that interests me) bit I generally prefer to read books (physical or Kindle)

    • A short history of nearly everything is great on audible. And Barak's A Promised Land I found interesting.

      • +2

That's one I got. Plus the Greek gods/heroes series by Stephen Fry

        • +1

I really love Stephen Fry's narration. He did spectacular work in the Sherlock Holmes series on Audible.

        • I'm on that at the moment! I'd recommend Norse mythology by Neil gaiman if you like that one

      • +1

The Bill Bryson books are great, he has a really good voice for reading.

    • Non fiction audiobook? Jesus no.

      Stephen King.

My library is at 50+ books thanks to lots of cheap deals, and I'm nowhere near running out of inspiration. There's tons of high quality books out there - the trick is to find something you enjoy.

I don't see the point of non-fiction audiobooks - I feel like they're more likely to be needed as a reference work, so they're better as ebooks where you can easily locate the content you're looking for. But fiction is wonderful in audiobook form, and makes long drives or tedious tasks feel much shorter and more enjoyable. I can highly recommend Ken Follett's 2 big series (Pillars of the Earth & Fall of Giants) if you want some well written and very nicely performed fiction.

    • I think you're generally right, although I think non - fiction books can be fine if they're conceptional (such as about psychology or productivity etc), but definitely nothing that requires instruction.

    • +2

I disagree as there are so many brilliant non-fiction books. I listen to fiction during the day out walking etc and non-fiction to fall asleep to…..not saying they put me to sleep due to being boring!

    • +2

Autobiographies narrated by the author tend to be great non-fiction audio books. I understand what you mean about reference books though.

      • agreed +1

      • Some of The Great Courses series are on Audible and are incredible value. I’ve listened to several on history, politics and language and they’re well-researched, well-performed, interesting and highly digestible in this format.

  • +1

I signed up for the non-fiction books and most of them aren't great, or the readers have a boring/monotone voice. struggled to find good books after a few months

  • can i save the credit for later or do i need to use it every month?

    • +2

Can’t save credits. (They’ll warn you if you are canceling)

      • thanks

do you know if i can use a credit for a pre-order then cancel my account after the 2nd month? will the purchase still be valid?

        • +1

          Hmmm, good question. No idea.

        • +1

You can roll over up to 5 credits with the monthly plan, meaning you can store up to 6 credits. However, all credits expire once your membership ends, as spillmill stated.

I asked amazon support and this is what they said regarding your second question: 'Once you pre-order, even if your membership cancelled, the pre-order you purchase will arrive on your account still.'

So yes, if you use a credit to pre-order an audiobook that releases after your membership expires, it'll work. However, if you cancel the pre-order after your membership has expired, there will be no reimbursement.

It's a bit risky, but in the event that the pre-order doesn't work, I'm pretty sure customer support would be nice enough to give you the audiobook you were wanting to preorder.

          • @AClubPenguinUser: awesome thanks

I read somewhere that Audible.com allows it. I'm assuming it should work for Audible.com.au too. I mean a credit is a credit.

  • Thanks op!

  • Any good/recent audiobook?

    • What genre do you like?

      • Sci-fi, action, thriller, self improvement, fantasy.

        • The Bobiverse Series are a bit of fun and narrated by Ray Porter who is good.
As are all the White Trash Zombie Series. Narration is excellent by Allison McLemore.

          • @Borg: Thanks, been reading Expeditionary Force and Bobiverse looks like something I would like.
            Cheers

          • @Borg: Thanks for the White Trash Zombie Series rec. I'd never heard of it, but the sample sounds good. I tend to prefer male narrators, but Allison McLemore's softer southern drawl works for me. I enjoy good characterisation, and suspect that this will be a good listen. The cover art gives me the heebie jeebies though; I'd never have clicked on it if I saw it pop up on Audible's site.

        • I've been really getting into litrpg. The Dungeon Crawler Carl series is brilliant.

        • +2

I assume you've read Cradle, if you have, the next volume is releasing on July 5th (July 6th for Aus). Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

          • +2

@AClubPenguinUser: Consider this another positive recommendation for Cradle. Great series if you want a xianxia (Chinese martial arts power up fantasy) where the protagonist has a more westernised moral compass than is typically found in the genre.

        • if you're up for it, gaunt's ghosts is a great series to start getting into warhammer 40k universe.
narrator was awesome as well and it has pretty much all you're looking for (except maybe self improvement)?

    • Name of the wind if you have not read it before.

        God speed my friend!

      • It didn’t work for me until the day following my membership expiry. Still worth a try.

Huzzah! It worked, with 4 hours to spare

  • Got this email last month as well as a cancelled customer.

  • Audiobookbay…

I already get free audiobooks via the borrow box app from my local library.

  • Didnt work for me

I've got 40 audio books now on Audible AU, have spent less than $10 over the years. I was waiting for another deal to claim WWZ audiobook, unlike the movie the book is a great style of storytelling thru world building.

    • Any tips?

      • Just patience for when they offer deals to former members, you can claim the deals from multiple regions on the same account, the libraries are seperate but the book will be available if it's already downloaded after switching regions.

But generally they do this a couple times per year and just turn off auto-renew, waiting for the next one.

Another option is you can usually get the audiobook for $3.50 of you own the eBook via Amazon, even of you get the book free.

    A few other suggestions:
The Complete Deadland Saga by Rachel Aukes1. A easy read and all three books included.

    Dark Matter By: Blake Crouch
    and book 2 being Recursion.

A Man on the Moon: The Voyages of the Apollo Astronauts is decent for those interested in the whole Gemini & Apollo missions. Good value being 23 hours.

  • This works, thanks OP.

  • 3 months here

  • Thanks! I am a huge Audible fan … except for the price. 🙂

I cancelled my previous AU membership about a month ago and this deal worked for me.

  • Just noticed that their is a thing called the "Plus Catalogue" on audible au, and it has some good books in it's range.

e.g. Around half of the Grand Tour series by Ben Bova.

    https://www.audible.com.au/series/Grand-Tour-Bova-Audiobooks…

  • Thanks! I re-subscribed for 2 months ;)

    Any recommendations for non-fiction books?

    My personal recommendation:
    - The last time I got similar offer to re-subscribe I used the free-credit on Malcolm Gladwell's book "Talking to Strangers" which ended up being an absolutely entertaining and fun listen. Think it was read personally by Malcolm himself. There's parts of the books where he wrote about conversation between characters which was acted out in the audiobook by other readers.

  • Thanks heaps. Love to work those Audible deals!

  • My library is all on the US Audible. Any decent deals on that one?

    • Best go check and report back :-)

  • +1

Didn’t work for me until the day following my membership expiry.
